RUSH of RIVER over ROCK is the story of a part wolf/dog, found badly injured in the mountains of western North Carolina, and the woman who gives him a home. Along with the many daily observations of this unusual dog that is part gray wolf, it is the story of each, both, as they straddled two different cultures and ways of being in the world.
I enjoyed this completely. The journal entries over many years tell the story of the connection between the author and her wolf-dog hybrid, their connection to the natural world, and the parallels between them with regard to questions of their ancestry.
An eloquent and touching memoir of a woman and her wolf/dog mix. Set mainly in the mountains of Appalachia, this journal of a single woman's journey living alone on a farm and learning about the rescued hybrid prompts her to dig deeper into her own past and discover more about her Cherokee and Irish heritages as well as the natural world around her. A moving story written in a flowing conversational style. A most enjoyable and unique kind of book.
