Sucker for Love

Rate this book
My husband seems to have a terrible habit of accidentally bonding with unsuspecting newcomers.

Cal and Neviah are married, the coastal lab co-op Neviah started is thriving, and she named her research boat “Cthulhu” just to mess with her husband.
Life is good, until Doctor Rowan “Ro” Priest arrives to assist Neviah on a new project.
The new guy is weird, and Neviah clocks it straight away. All it takes is a near-miss with a Petri dish to confirm it—she knew he had tentacle energy.
Cal feels it too—so strongly, in fact, that he ends up accidentally creating a mate bond with the only person he’s ever met who is like him.
Cal isn’t sure he’s ready to let an interloper into his marriage, but Neviah reassures him it’s okay to want. She tells Cal he should talk to Ro. Or… maybe more than talk.

Dove Soleil writes cozy, low stakes, high heat monster romance, paranormal romance, romantasy, and sci-fi romance with occasional feelings, lots of levity, and big ol'... happily ever afters!
She really likes to write witty banter, red hot spice, and edge it with just enough angst and emotion.
Things you'll find in Dove's books: lots of consent, realistic bodies, silliness, queer rep, neurodivergent and mental health rep, lots of spice.
Things you won't find in Dove's books: washboard abs, really deep plot/worldbuilding, absolutely soul-crushing angst*.

*Okay, she can't promise that. Dove loves angst. But if you want angst, you're best to check out Evita Wren's work, as Dove Soleil is a pen name of contemporary romance author Evita Wren.

Disclosure: I received an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for an honest review. As someone who loves supporting indie authors, I always aim to share thoughtful, fair feedback. While I have personal reading preferences like a love for fantasy, horses, or specific tropes, I never let that impact my rating unless it is relevant to the book’s intent or audience. I review with the genre and readership in mind. This is a late review due to my rating.

Star rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Darkness/Bloodiness:🖤 Please check content warning, some things could be triggering!

Some Tropes:
-Insta love
-MMF why choose
-Knots
-Deeply emotional
-Body positive

This is not my first read from Dove, I was finally absolutely ready for the tentacle craze. I even read in public with pokerface which I am super proud of, but definitely don't recommend, blushing is very possible.

I loved the spice, it is a very steamy erotica book with all the details and positions that are spiced further with tentacles and tentacocks (you read that right). There is little plot with lots of spice and a ton of emotional depth to balance it all out.

I think this is what I love most about the author's works, there is so much focus on grounding the reader. Body positivity nut just for female characters but for male as well, Neviah also Brough in some very heavy mental health representation and I was very touched by Cal's fear of happiness. I am not sure it was that exactly as it was never literally mentioned but I never knew before the struggle until I had a rough patch with fear of happiness, so I could recognise so many of the feelings and reactions Cal had. Not everything is sparkly in life and imperfect things (be it body, mind or whatever) are way more perfect for me than actual perfection that we are so used to thanks to the media.

I love how the dirty filthy smut books feel more real than any other romance book out there.

The humor is amazing, especially if you are a geek, you will recognise so many refences. The characters are all clearly highly educated and I love how the writing style showed that, not necessarily the plot. I specially loved that firmware fix. (smirk smirk if you know!)

If you want a big smut bookish challenge try poker face reading this gem, I am almost certain it's only possible by professionals!

Just to shortly summarise: if you love monster smut that is heavy on the smut side and you feel strongly about diverse, inclusive characters you will love the author's books. If you want to read Sucker For Love make sure to read book 1 first.

My favorite quote:
"Should've known you'd try to top from the bottom."

First off, I loved the concept of this book. I love a MMF (triad). I think for me this isn't a 5 star because of the lack of relationship with Nev. Nev is being a wonderful human by saying 'Hey, I see you two have a connection. Explore that. I want you both but you figure it out first." Which I can appreciate. However, I felt like Ro and Nev didn't have the same relationship that Cal and Ro have which I know is sort of the point. But still I love it when everyone loves each other equally and it felt like Cal and Ro had a deeper connection that Nev and Cal would ever have because she's human and they are not.

Other than that I loved every bit of their triad. Cal and Nev exploring adding a third, the communication, the open and honest conversations and just the overall vibe of this book.

Thank you to the author for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved seeing Cal and Neviah again but I don’t think I loved the MMF aspect. It didn’t feel like Ro and Neviah had a connection and he was only with her because he wanted Cal, it just didn’t sit right with me.

I thought the connection that Cal and Neviah had in the first book was so special and this sort of ruined it for me.

Thank you for the ARC.

I received a digital ARC of this book for my honest opinion.

Sucker for Love is the sequel we didn’t know we needed and my body was not prepared for. I need everyone to get a cozy blanket and you preferred bevy or snack for this, BECAUSE DOVE REALLY GOT US WITH THIS ONE. We come back to our loving duo two years later when Neviah is finding joy in her work and needing to hire someone to help. This is where Dr. Rowan “Ro” Priest comes in. There is something about Ro that reminds Neviah of something… or someone. Dove Soleil really hit it out of the park on many different levels with this book.

When it comes to Soleil I will always sing about her character development! In romance that was already established in a previous whirlwind novella we, as the readers, got to see so much more from both Cal and Neviah. It was great to see them interact with each other and someone else in very emotionally charged ways. We got to make new opinions as readers about these characters and still see if our opinions held strong. Along with her characters, her spice was wonderful! The spice was hot and kept coming in so many ways. A bisexual awakening handled so well, and so purely. The fact that these scenes also had so much of the character in them was so amazing.

I am so terrified and so excited for the next book! I understand why you had to split it up but the cliff hanger hurt and I will be thinking about that for a while! Over all 5/5 Stars!!

Was I warned that there was going to be a cliffhanger...yes.

Did it still have me shook...also yes.

But first let's talk about how incredible this story was.

We are immediately dropped back into the world of Cal and Neviah navigating their new found bond and life.

And listen I absolutely adore this couple... they are this perfect mix of sweet and romantic, while also having this chemistry that is so incredibly hot!

The insert the new MMC, he's this tall drink of water... and he's definitely got the dark and mysterious vibes going for him.

OF COURSE...we get this crazy situation that just changes the course of this couple's relationship...like completely tilts it on it's axis..

And as if I didn't think that the last book in this series was hot...lawd have mercy...this one just blew it out of the water. ( no pun intended)

These characters have this raw and primal connection that is undeniable... and there is no fighting it.

But nothing is ever easy peasy... and just when were getting all comfortable and situated...this author is like buckle up buttercup!

Even though I am left reeling ...

I cannot wait to see what's in store for these Tentacle Daddies and their little Trespassor.

I received this book as an ARC.

Cal, I love you, I kinda want to strangle you a little.

I loved this addition to Cal and Neviah's story! Devoured it in the span of two days after a bit of a reading slump. I was a little wary of the MMF aspect, since Neviah and Cal seemed to be pretty set in their relationship, and was curious as to what kind of person would squeeze into their relationship to make a third. Ro didn't disappoint! Even though he was the main part of the plot, I wanted more from him😅. He was just a cute addition to their relationship and introduced a whole new dynamic for them to explore.

Ironically, I'm hesitant to give it five stars not for the cliffhanger (I somehow did and didn't see it coming), but for something else. For a large portion of the story, it seemed like Neviah was a kind of third wheel to the story, even in her own POV. She and Ro didn't really develop a relationship of their own, and their interactions are very Cal x Ro centered. I could understand why, to an extent, she took a step back (Cal needed the space to accept the sudden change and exploration of his sexuality), but I think their connection could've been strengthened a tad more.

All in all, though, I enjoyed it! I better get a HEA in the next book!

Thank you Dove for the ARC ❤️❤️

Okay, listen. When I found out we were diving back into Neviah and Cal’s world, I screamed. I adored Hook, Line and Tentacle and Sucker for Love absolutely delivered that same perfect blend of cozy chaos, heartfelt moments, and gloriously wet monster energy 💦💖

Neviah, my sassy queen, on her boat Cthulhu🐙, doing science-y things and minding her own business, and then along comes Dr. Rowan 'Ro' Priest. From the minute he showed up, Neviah knew this man had tentacle energy, and then a tiny little 'oops' with a petri dish later and BAM! Neviah’s theory is proven right, Ro is definitely like Cal… tentacles and all.

And when Cal and Ro meet? WHAM. Insta bond. A few bits of mis-communication and doubt happen, it's absolute chaos. Then Neviah, being the supportive legend she is, pushes Cal to explore this new connection, and Ro (my labcoat-wearing king 👑) makes it clear he wants both of them. The communication, the care, the heat—it’s all just chef’s kiss 🫶

The ending? Dove really said 'here, have some emotional damage' and I said 'thank you, may I have another?' 😭❤️ 10/10 would get my heart broken by this poly tentacle love triangle all over again. I’m counting down the days until Forget Me Naut! 🌊💜

4.5 stars rounded up to 5

I didn’t think I could love Cal and Neviah more after Hook, Line & Tentacle, but Sucker for Love somehow made me even more obsessed. This book is steamy, emotional, and completely unhinged in a kind of chaotic, monster-loving magic way.

We pick up with Cal and Neviah living their best married life, her research boat named “Cthulhu” (naturally) and their relationship strong as ever until Dr. Rowan “Ro” Priest enters the chat and upends their lives. The second Neviah senses that “tentacle energy,” I knew things were about to get deliciously messy. What follows is an open, heartfelt, and extremely spicy journey as Cal and Ro navigate a bond neither expected, and Neviah proves once again that she’s the ultimate supportive partner and chaos enabler.

The spice is off the charts and the humor is sharp and nerdy. Soleil manages to blend monster smut, body positivity, and mental health representation with so much warmth and care that it feels almost tender between the tentacles. If you love weird, witty, and wildly sexy monster romance that actually has a lot of depth beneath the heat, Sucker for Love is a total win.

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book.

Who’s calling?
I love Cal & Nev and was so excited to jump back into their world. This book picks up two years after the end of the first one. The two are married now under the laws of Cal’s world and as Cthulhu’s even though Nev is human. Nev has really come into her own as a scientist and is being brave about her wants. She advocates for herself now.
I felt like the introduction and addition of Ro was rushed. I didn’t feel a solid connection between the three of them until closer to the end of the story. I was very hesitant about the three of them. I understand that Ro and Cal didn’t really have a choice so much. A lot is still unknown about what Cal & Ro are. They don’t know how they came to be, what transpired before it, or how to control things about themselves. Nev was so understanding and honest. She didn’t make anyone feel ashamed and gave them space to figure it all out. I am glad she finally got her wish though.
The ending had me freaking out just as much as Cal if not more so. I am ready for the third book already!

Suggested reading order to date:
1. Hook Line and Tentacle
2. Sucker for Love
3. Forget Me Naut

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I didnt think the author could make a sequel to her tentacle romance any better than the first. I was wrong. Adding in a second tentacle monster was a great move. Not only that, but to have both of them together as well? Yes please. Give me all the tentacles!

The spice definitely kicks up a couple notches in this sequel. Its so good and exciting to see how each relationship plays out as well as how they work together.

That cliffhanger.... um ma'am?!? How could you do that and then, boom, end of book! I have needs and questions. Luckily, theres promises of making it better in book 3.

On a different note. Was it just me who hoped there would be a scene during the "near death experience" where they brought in maybe the town doctor to look Ro over? Like I wanted them to bring someone from the town to make sure he was okay and for that person to not even blink an eye at what they see. Because they already knew and accepted Cal even if no one says it out loud. I just wanted them to know the town has their back. I'm a sucker for acceptance and I would have loved that.

If you enjoy tentacle spice, definitely pick this series up.

I've been in a reading funk lately so this one took a bit but once I got going it went quick. All of the things I've come to love about Dove's books are here. The powerful words & the rich descriptions that make the supernatural just come to life in such a natural way. There's also a depth to the emotions which is particularly impressive considering how fast things move in this book. I loved the inclusion of the science & scuba details. Getting to learn more about who Neviah is gave her character so much more depth. Seeing her & Cal interact as a married couple early in the book was so sweet. That said this is probably my least favorite of Dove's books I've gotten to read. I love a good triad but the plot for Cal's relationship with Ro seemed to lessen the impact of his story with Neviah. Neviah & Ro's relationship seems more forced & like a consolation prize. Meanwhile while the spice between Cal & Neviah or Cal & Ro was AMAZING, altogether I dont know...There was definitely more to unpack there. Either way I am so thankful I got to be part of this ARC & will be eagerly awaiting anything this author puts out.

Sucker for Love
ARC review
4⭐️

If you read my review for the first book you know I enjoyed the smutty tale (or tentatale 🦑) and knew going in that is was more smutty than plot but felt there was potential more plot.

Well this book gave me more.
This is still a very smutty book, where the smut dominates the plot but I feel like we were getting more of a story line, seeing more to the characters and their relationships.

This was a fun read, I enjoyed the development in all relationships.
It was great to see our two main characters but now the new addition. This is MMF, at first I wasn’t sure if this was going to be a why choose or how it would develop. But our FMC is so encouraging and supportive for both MMCs that they made the perfect triad.

But be warned this ends on a cliffhanger, and a pretty brutal one at that.

I love the ending and that we’re venturing to even more plot but damn, I wish I had the next book now because waiting is hard!

Okay, So I have to admit that the first book, was my introduction to smut, and I have to say I wasnt disappointed lol! So I was really excited for this book, I loved Cal and Nev's relationship in book one and I was hoping that I would get tosee more of that. I absolutely still loved this book. The author is hilarious and the Characters are written very intelligently. I love all the references that she puts in, that if you get you get. I did like that Cal found someone like him, and I am happy that Nev let him expirience that, but I missed the true bond that Cal and Nev had in the first book, for me it was such a special relationship, and I kind of wish that it would of grown more, even if they did add Ro. Overall it is still an amazingly smutty book written by an amazingly funny and witty author ( I love her books!). If your in to smut and spice and everything nice plus a dash of tentacock, then this is your book! Dont take my word for it go read it!!!!

I absolutely love this series! Book 1 (Hook, Line & Tentacle) set the scene, with Cal & Neviah meeting & falling in love, despite his non-human anatomy (although, no tentacock which did disappoint Neviah 🤣)

Book 2 sees Neviah employ a fellow scientist to help with her research. But when Ro arrives, Neviah feels the “tentacle energy” flowing from him. At the end of the day, she sets a trap to see if her instincts are correct - just as Cal walks into the lab. What unfolds between the three of them is a lot of soul searching, fear & hopefulness.

As the heat turns up between them, their first encounter as a threesome sees Neviah getting her wish granted - & an extra surprise that two of them aren’t expecting!

This is a silly, smutty, funny story with tentacock crossing, knotting & dirty talk - & it’s amazing!

Roll on book 3!

A really great sequel. After reading the first book I didn't see how Dove(author) could follow on from it. But they did and did a fantastic job and the cliffhanger WOW!!! Left me hanging now until the next book. The only reason this isn't a five-star is that I don't think Ro and Neviah had a strong connection it felt like she was trying with him because it was what she and Cal wanted but I felt like Ro made himself be with Neviah just before the fact that she came as a packaged deal with Cal and he's the one he wanted. But now book 3 is coming in think it leaves an open door for their connection/bond to grow stronger.
But the spice is off the charts with so many tentacles to play with 🌶🌶🌶🌶

So, I can't say that this was *much* different from the first book, in terms of pacing, vibes and heat, but what I CAN say is that ending came out of nowhere and left me :OOO!! Aaaaand now I can't wait for the 3rd.

This series is verrrrrry instalove, and while this isn't a bad thing, I feel like that needed to be repeated. I really, really would have liked a little more dancing around one another in the beginning, rather than generous spice in the middle, but I'm hoping the next book will give me what I'm craving.

That being said, still lovely. Monster fans, mercreature fans and weirdos, I insist you give Dove a try!!

I have never read a multiple lover romance before and was not sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by the relationship and chemistry between Ro and Cal! I do wish there was more written between Neviah and Ro, she’s such an incredible character and I found myself missing her in the scenes with Ro and Cal.

Can we talk about the cliff hanger?? I physically emoted in shock because I would have never expected how the book ended and now the next book couldn’t come out sooner!

What a way to end 2025! I love how Dove Soleil writes male characters but Neviah has a special place in my heart and this book made me love her even more!

⭐⭐⭐⭐🐙🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
the first book: Hook, Line, & Tentacle, left me wanting.. it left some questions unanswered, and was single POV. I gave it ⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️
I'm happy to report that this sequel answers a few of those questions along with multiple POV which really helps move the story along. This book also takes place in about 48 hours, So I'm going to forgo any real insight beyond that. But feel free to take in all of the Tropes:
Insta Love/Bond
MMF Triad
MM
body positivity
open/honest communication
tentacle appendages including 🍆

Loses a ⭐ b/c I'm not a fan of Cal's nicknames for his partners..

I love Neveah & Cal's story so much that Sucker for Love was without a doubt a must-read. & I'm so happy I had the pleasure of getting to read it. I was happily surprised by the development of their relationship and the new adventures they had with Ro. But the cliffhanger on this one has me impatiently waiting for book 3!!! I received this as an ARC read.

This is the 2nd ARC I’ve gotten from this author… thank you so much for letting me read this early.

The FMC and MMC are married and in walks a new guy… one with tentacles like Cal. I won’t lie, it took me a bit to get used to the fact that Neviah and Cal want to add Ro to their relationship.

I did like that Cal found someone just like him.

This was a fun sequel, full of spice and angst. Some new characters and a new love interest are introduced. I loved getting to see more about Cal and Neviah, but sadly couldn't warm up to the MMF element, as it felt like Ro was only with Neviah because he wanted Cal. Nevertheless, I'll read the third book in the trilogy because this one's got one hell of a cliffhanger.

I didn't love this unfortunately. I honestly feel that the relationship between the fmc and mmc is ruined by adding a third. And I don't feel that the new addition truly wanted the fmc and only puts up with her. I'm sorry but I don't think I'll be reading the next book either even though this ends on a cliffhanger. The reason this still gets a 4 star is that it's written well.

Absolutely loving these books by Dove Soleil. They're fun reads with some good spice and even better plot. I loved the continuation of Nev and Cal's story, when reading the first book I didn't expect there to end up being a third party added, but I am not complaining at all. This was such a good book I didn't know I needed after Hook, Line, and Tentacle.
