The Sacking of Triolux North

Rate this book
Earth like planet is facing some familiar problems.

A planet similar to ours is invaded and sacked. .

Do they retaliate with full force and turn their economy from agricultural to weapons manufacturing?

Before the attack, they believed in forgiveness, second chances, social integration, and mind manipulation to improve a person's success and self-esteem. Their crime rate proved it worked. The criminals were reintroduced into society and went on to live a high-quality life.

Suddenly, post-apocalyptic survival was rudimentary. The people of Triolux North struggled for food, understanding, and dignity.
As the old poem goes, "An eye for an eye, it was the only thing on their mind. And they're not going to stop until everyone's blind." That may have been the mantra for half of Triolux North. Others were not so hot-headed and needed time to digest a response.

If you like your sci-fi deep into a complicated issues, action, and suspense, you'll enjoy this tale.

Gripping Read!

A sci fi thriller with a philosophical slant.
DeVall's story world sucked me in from the very beginning and kept me turning pages right up to the end. The pacifist planet of Triolux North is attacked by an aggressive and brutal foe, leaving it bereft of its relied upon technology and in a state of shock. Unassuming citizen, Tee Calmwater, is thrown into the role of leader as he tries to bring Triolux out of the darkness it has endured. I'm a state of shock and grief, the people of Triolux North are left questioning their own belief system when faced with what to do to restore and protect their way of life.
Themes of faith, morality, religion and mind control are visited in the twists and turns of DeVall's highly imaginative writing and the reader is kept guessing as to which path the characters will take throughout.

One of my favorite snippets from the book:
He saw his men as more vibrant and alive than he had ever noticed before. They had been caught in the slumber of possession. He was plagued with the same thoughts as them. What is the cost of freedom? What will be the ultimate change? Insecurity and anxiousness could become debilitating if not confronted and dealt with in a proper way. The psychiatrists were scrambling to evaluate their subjects. They were pressed to come up with a teachable program to deal with the emotional trauma of free will.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sci fi fantasy with great world building.

"The Sacking of Triolux North" has several faults - the writing is often awkward and it could have benefited from a tough edit. Additionally, rather too much space is given to less than subtle, or even persuasive, metaphors concerning life here on Earth.
As a sci-fi thriller it works quite well and it is a pity it didn't stick more to it, leaving the 'psychologically fascinating' stuff mostly behind.
The peaceful planet of Triolux North has been attacked and devastated by the fearsome religious warriors of Zellhigh.
When the dust settles a leader arises, Tee. There will be another attack and this time the people of Triolux will be more than ready.
Only the 'peaceful' people are that way by what appears to be compulsory mental manipulation and the 'fearsome religious warriors" are discovered to be something else entirely.
The longer it goes on the more psychobabble there is. And, as a result, it gradually descends from 'interesting but flawed' to 'will it never end?'
Overall "The Sacking of Triolux North" is completely ham-fisted. A critical statement comes towards the end: "This is what the bravest of the brave do. They chose country over self."
This may well be the case in some places but it completely avoids the question of whether choosing country over self is, in fact, the right thing to do.
I had hopes for this book. Hopes that were sadly unrealised.
It is a complete and utter mess.

The book is grey from the beginning to the end. It is a tale of disillusionment where man due to his own weaknesses strays away from the path of God and embraces things that go against his principles. The Sacking of Triolux North is thought-provoking science fiction with a number of themes. There is the theme of destruction, religion, philosophy, materialism, inner struggle, and much more. The story hints at a picture of North America and shows how a peace-loving society turns into the universe' most powerful place with the strongest military and muscle power. The book shows the dilemma of people when they are confronted with the abuse of their families. At this point, they only crave for revenge and no longer want to be forgiving and the bearer of God's light. The book is grim and although written in the style of science fiction, shows much that is happening wrong in our current world. I could find parallels of Syria and ISIS in some of the destruction scenes shown by the aggressive alien group that showers mindless destruction on Triolux North every eighteen years without any apparent reason. The book is engaging and I liked it for its spiritual angle.

In The Sacking of Triolux North, by Richard DeVall, Tee Calmwater has a clear vision of how to protect and restore his planet. Triolux North is attacked every 18 years by an angry religious group from another planet. They leave these people devastated as they shoot men, women are attacked, children are taken as soldiers, and they leave Triolux North desolate. These are a peaceful people, but must learn to protect and defend themselves. Time is running out before the Zellhigh’s warriors come again, will they be ready? Can Tee Calmwater rally his people?

I found The Sacking of Triolux North, by Richard DeVall, intriguing as they leave these people in a primitive state, again. Tee Calmwater finds being a leader isn’t easy and depends on his AI for help. It quickly outlines how this planet must become productive again. Tee is a likeable leader and accomplishes much in the few years they have. I think space fiction readers would enjoy this novel.

Richard Devall delivers an impressive book with so much in it than what we would initially expect from your regular sci-fi book. The Sacking of Triolux North is a brilliant metaphor to human exploitation, slavery, terrorism and pacifism and mind control. There is so much to unpack here that everyone will find something to love in the story.
The way the plot presents itself, not on a straight line but on a very complex and intricated web is brilliant and showcases the fear and the thinking that the people have to face if they want to save themselves. The path is not clear, there are multiple ways to achieve it but what will be the better one? Richard Devall offers a very well-written story, with compelling characters and a story that forces us to think. One of the best self-publishing books I’ve read in 2019.

A sci-fi-thriller !
A sci-fi-thriller wherein a peace loving planet has to read and learn to protect its people and the whole planet from the attacks of other religious evils. They attack them every few years and leave the planet devastated, but Tee Calmwater is sure he will save his planet this time and will everything for it. The book is a thriller, fight for survival and also indirectly depicts the tension around religion. A good read with strong character of Tee!
