Welcome to Maplewood Bay—where breakfast comes with a side of murder.
Blakely Monroe thought running a bed and breakfast would be peaceful. But when the most hated food critic in town drops dead in a breakfast tart, her grand opening turns into a crime scene.
Now the guests are gossiping, the muffins are suspiciously missing, and the police aren’t exactly helpful.
Armed with a color-coded planner, her slightly OCD instincts, and Scout—a dog with a nose for clues—Blakely teams up with her farmer neighbor, Bobby, to uncover the truth.
But Maplewood Bay is full of secrets. Like Nora the moody chef with a grudge, or Arlene the pie queen with motive to spare.
As poisoned pastries pile up and threats hit too close to home, Blakely must solve the case before the killer serves up another victim…
When Blakey Monroe arrived in Maplewood Bay to take over her inherited B & B, she was not expecting a full house, major repairs and a dead body at breakfast. Undeterred, Blakely teams up with her neighbor, Bobby, to find the killer and bring peace back to Maplewood Bay.
The author used the point of view of both Blakely and Bobby to tell this story. I thought this was clever and made it interesting to hear from both characters. When I started this book, I was engaged with the characters and premise, but towards the end, some issues popped up that affected my enjoyment of the story. It seemed to me that the culprit came out of nowhere and the reason behind the murder was a little confusing. Also, the wrap up at the end of the book seemed to be a bit redundant. All that being said, I do think this author shows a lot of promise and I look forward to watching her grow as a writer.

“If someone had told me six months ago that I’d be running a bed and breakfast in a town called Maplewood Bay—solving murders, wrangling dogs, and getting hand-knitted sashes from a knitting circle—I would’ve laughed them out of the room. But now? Now I’m not sure I could ever go back.”
Blakely Monroe just inherited a B & B,that belonged to her aunt, in Maplewood Bay called Oceanspray. She’s looking forward to a brand new start after quitting her accounting job and calling off an engagement. What she isn’t expecting is the dead body in the sunroom her first week at the B & B.
Miles, a despised food critic, incredibly disliked by all for ruining lives and businesses, there’s no love lost there. Blakely starts receiving threatening messages to give up or someone will get hurt. She decides to work with her neighbor Bobby, to search for clues. Can they piece together everything before someone else gets hurt?
Overall this was a solid read. I enjoyed the dual pov we got from Blakely and Bobby’s perspective. I always think that adds depth to any story when we get to see what’s happening from multiple angles. It had me guessing right along with them the entire story.
“The future feels wide open. A little uncertain. And completely mine.”
Not that anyone is really all that upset when Miles Durant ends up dead, but still, he was staying at the Oceanspray B&B which Blakely Monroe just inherited. However, Blakely didn’t show up at the B&B alone, she did have her dog Scout with her. So now with the death of the critic, Blakely decides she needs to find out just who murdered the man, along with Scout of course. This is a fun story. It’s entertaining with all kinds of humor, the plot moves right along and it kept me guessing up until the end. A great escape from reality and I look forward to the next one from Kaylynn Smith!

What a delightful cozy mystery! Blakely Monroe inherits the charming Oceanspray B&B, only to have her plans interrupted by the sudden (and not-so-mourned) death of critic Miles Durant. With her loyal pup Scout by her side, Blakely jumps right into sleuthing. The seaside setting, the lovable dog, and Blakely’s determination make this such a fun and heartwarming whodunit. I couldn’t put it down!.

This story was extremely confusing. How was the dog in two different places at the same time? How does the new owner already know who everyone is and their backstory when she just met them? People appear and then disappear. So many other things. I believe there is a good story line here. I wish the author with get a good editor to go back over everything. And help them with the inconsistencies. Get rid of the silliness and confusing parts. Then I'd like to read it again.
Blakely comes to Maplewood Bay to run her Aunt's B&B. During the process of getting used to the small town she encounters a murder of a much disliked critic. During breakfast he's poisoned by something on his tart. There is no shortage of suspects in the small town. While investigating she finds threatening notes to stop digging. The overall reveal of the murderer is spot on. Though I had no idea who it was.
Loved the story line for Murder at the B & B! A little hectic to keep up with different characters speaking for different chapters. I did feel that as I progressed further in the story, I was getting to know them better. A good who summit that kept me guessing to the end. Loved detective Scout , especially!
Inheriting her aunt's B&B didn't quite turn out the way Blakely thought. Food Critic Miles Durant was murdered at the B&B, and Blakely needs to find out who did it. One of her employees, a guest, she needs to save her B&B and her reputation.
