About the author

Born in Singapore in 1964, Chan Joon Yee had wanted to be a writer since he was 12, but growing up in pragmatic and materialistic Singapore, he went on to graduate with a degree in Bachelor of Dental Surgery from NUS in 1988.

With his livelihood secured, he went on to publish his first novel Worlds Apart in 1991. Following that, he launched his second novel Like a Dewdrop in 1993. He was also well-known for his English translation of Singapore's eminent backpacker Ng Wai Choy's travel stories, once serialised in the Straits Times.

Besides books, Chan wrote many magazine articles on health, travel and relationship issues. He also contributed poems and short stories to a locally published literary magazine. He was also the editor for an adventurers' club's newsletter.

Chan's other passion is adventure travel. He has organised treks and climbing expeditions in Nepal and backpacked all over Thailand, China, India, Indonesia and Pakistan. At age 19, Chan was sent for military training in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. He fell in love with the place and planned to make Thailand his second home. After knowing the Land of Smiles for 30 years, he is considering other options.

Chan got married in 2000 and decided to focus on bread and butter issues, giving up his writing career to focus on his profession with a special interest in cosmetic dentistry. He was also trained in facial aesthetic procedures (Botox/filler injection). A fan of Traditional Chinese Medicine, he also studied TCM and graduated with a Graduate Diploma in Acupuncture in 2012. However, years in the rat race and a high profile practice took a heavy toll on his health and well-being. He decided to slow down and lead a more meaningful life.

20 years after his last book appeared in 1993, Chan made a comeback in the writing/publishing scene.
