Rookscroft #3

Into The Wild Woods

Rate this book
The Rookscroft series is illustrated cozy fantasy — whimsical tales of talking animals, unexpected friendships, and the joy of discovery, told with warmth and charm.

Spring was in the air that morning, though the chill lingered outside. Quentin, Robin, and I were spending a happy afternoon in the library, dreaming of adventures, when a writing slope on the mantle caught Robin’s eye. Inside we discovered the drawing of a cottage, with a key, and a map leading deep into the Wild Woods.

Robin begged us to go at once and after some persuasion, Quentin agreed, so the following morning we set off across fields, down the lane, and into the forest. But when Robin vanished overnight our happiness turned to dread as his footprints ended at the banks of a rushing stream.

We traveled through dense forests, from the mountains to the sea in our desperate search . But would we be too late to save our precious friend?

"Hello dearie, I did so enjoy seeing myself in a real story book, I don't know how the story goes 'cause I can't read the words, but I love looking at all the pretty pictures." - Aunty Winnie

"I sat beside the camp fire and read the whole thing in one sitting. My what an adventure you had!" - Elise

"Thank you for sending along a copy, I must say I'm rather impressed with my likeness in the portrait, very well done! - I'll visit soon, perhaps we could all meet down in the bay, as I'm not sure I can manage all those steps. Until then safe travels." - Judge DP Bonneville

Another fabulous and enchanting story following Jayne and her charming animal friends.
Quentin and Jayne are off on a mission to find their missing friend Robin. What started as a hunt for a cottage turns into a frantic quest to find missing Robin. We see the duo travelling through the dangerous woods and making new friends along the way.
It's an emotional journey as Jayne tries to comfort Quentin as they fear for Robin's safety. They come across helpful creatures and dangerous ones, get mystical clues, and enjoy lots of tea and cake along the way.
This is an emotional tale filled with heartfelt moments, quirky characters, and plenty of adventures.
The illustrations are always a wonder to see and bring a sweet addition to the story.

This is the third book in the Rookscroft series and I found this story a little darker than books one and two, not quite as cute and cosy, more of an adventure with themes of fear and loss. Still charming and whimsy with my favourite little bird again bringing the humour.
With the same characters we’ve met before, Jayne, Quentin the pheasant and Robin the quail, they set off into the Wild Woods with a map and a key in search of a cottage they’ve seen in a drawing.
Things take a worrying turn when Robin goes missing and the trip becomes a quest to find him.
Journeying across mountains, forests and sea we are introduced to more wonderful creatures on the way. Finding help from Elsie the Bear with her fortune telling and the wise Seal, Judge DP Bonnerville. Each character is brought to life through the beautiful illustrations and all bringing a sense of mystery and magic.

I’ve really enjoyed this series, not only are the books stunning but the messages of love and friendship with a little touch of magic whisk you away to this special little place and it’s been a pleasure.

Review ↝ I so loved this series. Its’ fantastic characters and charming setting evoke a sense of warmth that could be described as a new classic story that can be read annually during the autumn season. It has it all humor, heart and by happenstance a bit of adventure. I enjoyed spending time with Jayne and all the quirky folk in this whimsical world. Book 3 also brought a message to readers. Though times are tough, intimidating or can become challenging, emotions whether positive or negative are valid. As we travel on unknown paths our faith will lead us. We can also find comfort that family and friends are dependable and that we may be our true, authentic selves. Overall, the story, cover and artwork are beautiful, I’d recommend the entire storybook series.

Thank you @rookscroft and @lovebookstours for the gifted copy.

While I’m a big fan of all the Rookscroft series, this is my favorite to date. It made me smile, it made me laugh and it made me cry (both sad and happy tears). I can’t recommend this book enough and urge everyone to pick it up, especially fans of cozy fantasy who want a warming tale for the near cold autumn and winter days <3 I can’t wait to see what comes next for the little hatted animal crew!!

Into The Wild Woods is the 3rd instalment of the Rookscroft series and the longest in the series so far.

The story picks up after book 2. It’s the end of Winter and after a period of staying warm indoors, Jayne, Quentin and Robin are eager to stretch their legs outside. While looking through the library in Rookscroft house, they discover a map and a key leading to a cabin in the Wild Woods so they decide to explore!

The Wild Woods is notoriously home to more dangerous animals and creatures who would see Quentin and Robin as a snack so they have to be careful. They find their way to the cabin and have a lovely time but when the next day comes they discover a member of their party has gone missing.

This leads to meetings with varying animals who will either help or hinder them while trying not to get lost in the woods. Will they find their friend and make it back home or will disaster strike?

This book is definitely more dark than the first two books which had a more cheery and cozy storyline. It touches on difficult subjects such as loss and death and I must admit I was very anxious reading certain parts of this book!

As with the other books in the Rookscroft series, Jayne introduces us to some wonderful characters. I particularly liked Elsie the bear with her mystical vibes! The Wild Woods has been mentioned in previous books so it was fun to explore this area, even if it is creepy!

Jayne leaves the book open for another and I really do hope there will be more to come! I adore this series with its talking animals, the wonderful settings and the adventurous but cozy storylines. Rookscroft is a perfect book series to share with the whole family but this book might be a little bit scary for a very young audience.

Overall, this book was a delight to read and I thoroughly recommend it!

Thank you to Jayne and lbt for my physical copy, this is my honest review.

I loved this series as a whole, I hadn't realised until I was reading this book just how much these characters have meant to me. I've enjoyed reading the books with my son and even my husband has been listening in!

This book in particular captured my heart and had my full attention. It is sweet and charming and full of hope, friendship and love. I had tears in my eyes as we read about the scene on the beach and shortly after - I won't spoil it - but I am so glad of the way it all ended. I love the illustrations to help visualise this beautiful created world and feel like I would love to visit Rookscroft for afternoon tea with Jayne, Robin and Quentin.

The story sees Jayne, Quentin and Robin finding a letter and key to an old lodge up in the wild woods and set off on an adventure to discover this hidden nook. The adventure goes awry when little Robin goes missing and Jayne and Quentin set off to find him travelling further into the wild woods. It sees them meeting a whole host of new characters, some that have you smiling at their sweetness and others that have you sliding under the duvet to hide! The wild woods are indeed everything they've been promised to be when mentioned in the previous books, dark and foreboding and not a place to linger.

I am truly sorry that this was our last adventure as I have enjoyed these books so much. The physical copies are beautiful and are taking pride of place on my son's shelves.

This is the conclusion of the 3 book series. It’s a beautifully written, atmospheric adventure that captures both the wonder and the peril of childhood curiosity, while touching on some hard hitting themes. From the very first line—“Spring was in the air that morning, though the chill lingered outside”—the story immerses you in a world that feels timeless and just a little bit enchanted.

The trio of friends—Quentin, Robin, and the narrator—are instantly endearing, their friendship painted with warmth and genuine affection. What begins as an innocent daydream in the library quickly turns into a haunting and emotional journey through forests, streams, and hidden dangers. The discovery of the mysterious writing slope, the map, and the key sets the tone perfectly for an old-fashioned adventure with a touch of mystery and melancholy.

The author’s descriptions of nature are vivid and lyrical, bringing the Wild Wood to life as both a place of beauty and menace. There’s a subtle undercurrent of fear and loss that gives the story real emotional depth, especially as the search for Robin grows more desperate. And the illustrations throughout the whole series are just stunning.

If there’s one small drawback, it’s that some sections move a little slowly, and I wished for a bit more resolution at the end. Still, the book’s blend of nostalgia, suspense, and heart makes it a memorable and moving read.

For my full sensory review please visit my blog. Into the Wild Woods is the third and final instalment in the Rookscroft series. This series is a children’s whimsical fantasy series, with quite mature themes. All the books are full of wonderful characters that really come to life and it’s rural setting and the nature and folklore element adds to it magical vibes.

I do advise reading through first as an adult especially before reading to younger children as the themes explored may not be suitable or appropriate at this time. For ourselves, all our children really enjoyed and our youngest is seven.

Our seven year old preferred to have this one read to her and she felt it was quite a grown up book. Into The Woods, as mentioned, is longer than the books before and it continues the series with it’s entertaining narrative, whilst tackling some more serious topics and quite possibly introducing children to harsh realities of nature.

There are some sad scenes again best to read through yourself so that you are prepared. I do recommend you read this series in order to get the best out of it.

My whole family enjoyed the series and it does look amazing on the bookshelf or out on display. This is a set of books we will return to and not be parting with. I highly recommend the Rookscroft series.

This is the whimsical story I absolutely adored! The series is filled with fun, hope, and wonder. The hardcover editions are stunning, with breathtaking illustrations that truly bring the story to life. The author, who is also an talented artist, owns a charming shop filled with artwork inspired by these books, perfect to visit if you're in England or shop online.

They embarked on our exciting adventure — strolling through vibrant fields, wandering along winding country lanes, and venturing into the mysterious forest. What began as a joyful day, with plans for a picnic and a cozy evening in the cottage, suddenly took a sharp turn: little Robin had disappeared!
At first, they follow his tiny footprints, but they suddenly stopped at the edge of a rushing stream—no other clues in sight. Feeling desperate and worried, they ventured further into the dark, magical Wild Woods - from snowy mountain peaks to the roaring green sea. Along the way, they met friends and helpful guides who assisted them. But time was slipping away. Will they run out of time? Would Robin return safely? Or would this day change our lives forever?

I received a complimentary copy of this book and read it with pleasure. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.

This is the third and final book in Rookscroft series (so far....) and having read and loved the first two books - All Feathers And Hats and The Circus Of The Crescent Moon - I was so happy to be heading back to this gorgeous landscape and spending time with Jayne and the gang for another adventure.

This book was quite different in that we spend much more time away from Rookscroft and now the weather is getting warmer, Jayne, Quentin and Robin take a walk through the wild woods to see the lodge there.

When they wake and Robin is missing, the pair head out to search for him.

I loved meeting the new characters through this journey, but the woods definitely held a much darker atmosphere and not everyone we meet is friendly.

Once again though, this is so beautifully written and the descriptive writing gives us such a clear and vivid image of the surroundings as the characters journey through the woods.

I loved this as it reminded me of all the times we used to walk through our local woods and all those sights, smells and sounds came flooding back to me - sadly we don't have a waterfall in our local woods, but still, it felt so familiar.

This has been such a gorgeous series and I've loved every minute with Jayne and the other residents.

I really hope that there will be more books to come in the future as not only are they absolutely beautiful to look at and keep on our shelves, they make great stories that I'd come back to again and again.

Are you ready for an adventure? An adventure into the wild woods? Well make sure you have everything you need, because this is really going to be a wild adventure.

I was so pleased to start reading this and find Jayne, happily living with Quentin and Robin, the characters I adored from the previous book.
As they peruse books at home in the library, they formulate a plan, an adventure. It seems risky, but they are all prepared, until little Robin disappears. What follows is an epic adventure through the woods, encountering new characters as they go. I’d say this instalment is aimed at an older audience as younger children may find it a little scary and some of the topics are definitely for an older understanding.
Now, we can’t discuss a book from this series without mentioning the illustrations. Again, they really lift this story, bringing it to life right in front of your eyes. The details are incredible and you really will spend time just admiring them and watching the story come to life.

I have really enjoyed this whole series, it’s magical how all the characters come to life, but be warned, you will expect animals you encounter to come up to you and speak to you!

Into the Wild Woods is a children’s fantasy book by Jayne Siroshton, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. The illustrations are beautiful and full of charm, making this a book to keep, treasure, and revisit time and time again.
Although it’s aimed at younger readers, there are some surprisingly grown-up words and themes woven into the story. But the prose is witty and whimsical, and I often found myself chuckling at certain moments and feeling a warm glow at others. However, it’s worth noting that the story also explores more emotional territory. There are sad and even fearful scenes, reflecting the reality of life for animals in the wild — a touch of truth that gives the tale real depth and meaning.
Overall, Into the Wild Woods is a delightful blend of magic, humour, and heartfelt emotion. It’s a story that entertains while gently introducing children to the complexities of the natural world. A wonderful addition to any bookshelf, this is a book that young readers (and adults reading along) will return to again and again.

This third book pulled on my heartstrings, the story again was beautifully written and took us on an incredible adventure.

Jayne has as previously opened up a world of animals that talk, have their own personalities, thoughts & feelings. As with the previous books I loved Quentin & his dry humour but it was lovely to see more of the little quail Robin, who innocences to the world shines through.

This book once again expanded the world and was so vividly described, I could imagine everything happening in front of me. As with the other books there are beautiful illustration that aid to making the book more vivid.

This book felt a lot deeper in some topics then previous books & as mentioned before I would say these are perfect for adults to read.

If you ever visit York go find the lovely little shop there.

All I can say is I’m gutted this magically adventure has come to an end but hope in future the journey continues.

This third book in the Rookscroft series is just as wonderful as the first two. This one, however, packs in some heart wrenching moments. Some darker themes are explored related to loss, fear, loneliness and death. But friendship, companionship, and compassion for others is so beautifully highlighted in Jayne, Quentin and Robin's adventure into the Wild Woods.

This one made me cry. A beautiful reminder that those we love never truly leave us.

These books are beautiful and were such a joy to read and share with others. I hope to see more of Jayne and her friends soon on another adventure. Perhaps across the sea exploring for sea monsters or searching for pirates.

I am so grateful that Love Books Tours and Jayne Siroshton included me on the tour for the three books of the Rookscroft series. And thank you for the gifted copies to read and review. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Into the Wild Woods is the third instalment of the Rookscroft series and definitely the most emotional of all three books, it made me cry and laugh and left me full of whimsy and wanting to read more. In this book we continue our tale with Jayne, Quentin and Robin who decide to take a wee trip to find a cabin in the woods, however during this adventure they become separated and all three need to be brave and face many fears in order to find each other again. During their adventure they find many different woodland residents, some nicer than others. Honestly I think this was my favourite book of all three, the sense of adventure and emotional moments on this book really made me connect with it and left me wanting to join more of our trio’s adventures. The illustrations are as usual absolutely stunning and it was a joy to see them while reading.
Into The Wild Woods is a story of friendship, found family and of caring for one another

Into The Wild Woods is the third, and I think last(?) book in the delightfully whimsical Rookscroft series. Whilst it is a children's book, I think it is better suited for slightly older children than the previous books.

This book is full of the beautiful artwork that I have come to expect, and a map showing the area that Rookscroft is set. I do love a map!

And so we're back with some of our wonderful, feathered friends from the previous book, and some new creatures as well. I loved Aunty Winny and Elsie, I feel like sitting down with the two of them and having tea would be a splendid experience. But this book was a little more scary, a little less safe than the others. Jayne and Quentin end up on an adventure that's fraught with danger in the quest to find Robin. I was really rather worried for him myself. Of course, I can't tell you the outcome, you'll have to read the book for yourself. I promise you won't regret it.

We are now on Book 3 in the series, and I think this is my favourite.

We continue the story of Jayne, Quentin and Robin and embark on another adventure with them. This time, after finding a map to a cottage in the woods, they all set off to explore. Unfortunately, things take a darker turn when Robin goes missing.

Jayne and Quentin set out to find him and embark on a journey through the Wild Woods. We meet more wonderful creatures and the illustrations accompanying the story are still as gorgeous.

This story is a bit darker with danger, mystery and is emotional as it deals with more intense topics like loss, which might be upsetting for younger readers.

A fabulous addition to any home library for all generations to read. I will definitely be recommending this series to family and friends.

This gorgeous perfectly sized book, is one to be treasured. It’s lushly whimsically, and the art both on the cover and hidden inside really adds to the reading experience. A perfect series to collect and cherish.

My son Henry adores the cover and we had a fantastic time looking at the map and imagining adventuring with Quentin and Robin through the Wild Woods to find the cottage.

A wonderful tale full of the power of friendship, but undercut with sadness and loss, which all added to the depth of the story which I think is probably my favourite of the three.

Some of the themes would not be suitable for younger readers, so I read this alone but I’ll share it with Henry when he’s a little older and it didn’t detract from his enjoyment of the pictures.

Thank you to the author for the wonderful copy to review

I read this book with my 9 year old daughter, Peighton. When I asked her what she thought about the book, she said:

“I want to start by saying that I really love the front cover, the name of the book and the picture of the Wolf on the front - I love that Wolf. I really liked the pictures throughout the book too. Robin is still my favourite character”

This was another fantastic instalment to the series. It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and although Peighton was a bit young to understand some of the big feelings and emotions in the story, I as an adult felt them! There were a few moments she questioned what a few things were and I did struggle to explain in a more child friendly way and keep it a bit lighter for her.

Overall, a really enjoyable series with some really fantastic characters!

Welcome back to Rookscroft! What a beautiful book. The story was heartfelt, and I admit that it made me cry! The cover is gorgeous again. Puhpowee is on the cover this time. It's a beautiful illustration. Jayne's illustrations are exquisite again. The colours, use of light, etc, are just wonderful. The writing is excellent and flows perfectly. The descriptions are good and imaginative. The setting of the Wild Woods is great, and it's very creepy in there! The characters are wonderful again. They're so deep and a joy to read about. Jayne, Quentin and Wee Robin are back for their new adventure. They meet another wonderful cast of new friends. I love Robin, though. He's the sweetest little Quail! I definitely recommend this and the series. I really do hope we get another installment of the friends' adventures.

Book 3 of the Rookscroft series. This book has a much darker storyline than the others and I wasn't prepared for the emotional rollercoaster that comes with the adventure and drama involving first Robin and then Quentin. There are some very strange parts to the book during Jaynes time in the Wild Wood, is it magic or is it something more? it has a psychedelic feel to it - Are Jayne and Robin hallucinating ? I Liked the irony and humour in the story from Quentin about how animals can't really talk when robin is reading a book about fictional animals. At the same time he offers warnings about going into the wild because creatures are not the same as them. There was so much danger and adventure in this book, I am intrigued to see if there will be any future adventures in store.

What a beautiful series this is! The illustrations are enchanting, the animals they meet are thankfully all nice and helpful but I can imagine the wild woods are a scary place for unsuspecting visitors. A small quail and a pheasant are very small compared to bears, sea lions and wolves. I love the names of the animals and their clothing and suchlike.

My heart was in my throat at times with the situation with Robin and then Quentin, unsure how Jayne would work it all out.

Rookscroft sounds a beautiful place to live, a view of the ocean, minus the sea serpents! I love how each book follows on from the previous, each with a new adventure, new animals to meet along the way and a tale to tell from each encounter.

Don't miss a chance to read this gorgeous series!

What a lovely third book to this stunning and glorious series. I am still caught up in the stunning hardback design and the illustrations that make this book and series as a whole just a wee treat.
Through this book, we are taken on a different adventure, where we leave and head into the woods, after a picnic is twarted by Robin going missing. They must go through all kinds of landscapes and adventures, trying to find Robin and they even begin to lose their hope they they will find them. We see all of the emotions we could imagine, throughout this journey, so it is very realistic, whilst wrapped in a whimsical fancy. I found it very easy to connect with and feel what all the characters were feeling. It was a stunning wee journey and a great third book.

I to the Wild Woods is probably my favourite of the series!
It’s darker and more emotional and heartfelt.
I love that we still have our core characters of Jayne, Quentin and Robin. I also love how Siroshton brings in even more new characters and it’s never overwhelming and they always add something special to the story.
This whimsical world has gotten a little bit darker, has some slightly more mature and emotional themes. As such, I would suggest reading it yourself first before deciding if your child is ready to read it.
What a wonderful series and one to keep on my bookshelves and pass onto my kids!

The final book of this beautiful trilogy is again illustrated by the author. She has done a magnificent job of bringing these quirky characters to life.
We meet old friends and new ones. In this one dangers lurk in every corner every carpet bag whilst looking for a missing friend.
This one is not quite as light-hearted as the first book suitable for older children/parent -and adults (carer discretion for younger readers) . It's a perfect read for the colder autumn nights. With a cosy blanket and warm drink.
It has been an absolute delight getting to know these characters. Even though this is the end there is still plenty of scope for more adventures.

This is book three in the Rookscroft series and we are back with Jayne and Quentin who go on a little adventure with their friend Robin but Robin ends up going missing in the wild woods - no place for a quail!

As with the other two books in the series this one had stunning illustrations and a beautiful cover. Definitely a collection of books to treasure.

There were some darker tones to this book with themes of loss and grief but it was still a cute read - we got to meet loads of new characters and explore the wild woods.

I highly recommend this series to either read with slightly older children or for yourself!

Book 3 of 3 in the Rookscroft series doesn’t disappoint. This was my favourite cover with Puhpowee such a beautiful picture and such a great character!

Bear made me laugh with his flippancy around his ‘ferry’. Quentin and Robin make a great adventurous pair and I hope they have more adventures - soon!

I’ve read the series together with my son who is 9 and he’s looked forward to reading them at bed time, there are some tricky words but he’s learnt a lot reading through them. We imagined the view from Elsie’s Caravan numerous times, it would be amazing looking at the art work at the start of the book!

In the third instalment of the Rookscroft series, Jayne, Quentin and Robin find a map that leads to a secret Lodge in the Wildwood and decide to go on a grand adventure to find it. However, their adventure turns into something entirely different. I’ve loved following the adventures of Jayne and her magnificent animal friends. This story was more intense and emotional than the previous two. There was a lot of focus on death and sadness in this book. Even so, it is a great read. We are introduced to some new, fabulous characters who added a new dimension to the stories with a unique personalities. I do hope that there will be some more adventures to come.

This series of books are some of the most beautiful I have received. They have an old world style that really appeals to me, it reminds me of the Victorian era. This time we are starting with Quentin and Robin in the library which is the best way to start any book and from there we go into the world of Rookscroft, I love how we are building this world and the escapism it provides. We love the whimsical nature of this series and the fantasy aspect is such a great way of introducing your children to fantasy books
