Escape the Lie: Journey to Freedom from the Orphan Heart by Walker Moore with Marti Pieper

The most I can say about this book is “Thank you.” Moore and Pieper have introduced me to a symptom that has plagued me and probably everyone I know. Well, actually, I already knew the symptom, but they have given it a name, a definition, a reason for its being and the path to escape it.

The therapeutic terminology, Moore explains, is Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). Moore found it most obvious among orphans. They develop a self-protection against rejection. RAD symptoms can range from believing they are worthless so they never have higher expectations getting disappointed to being overbearing toward others to ward off being challenged. The Orphan Heart.

Recognizing the lies spoken into each of our lives revealed how much we all have the heart of an orphan at work in us. We have developed our own reactions to lies about our skills and worth. Our habitual responses keep us from experiencing the freedom and abundant life Jesus came to give. If you’ve ever wondered why you respond to situations the way you do, this book may have the answer for you. Discover the lie. Defeat it. Enjoy new freedom.
