Welcome, to brand new indie author Mary Gill. Her debute novel is a wonderful introduction to the community she is creating at Lake Serenity Resort. I love books that introduce characters that we get to know and then get to visit again as future relationships unfold. Mary introduces us to a group of friends who have all come to a....Crossroads...in their life and manage to come together to move on and in the process support a member of their group recover from a devastating car accident. Nothing like friendship and love to help carry those in need through tragedy.
Now keep in mind this a debute novel. It starts off in the fast lane and is sometimes difficult to follow from one change of scene to the next but you definitely see growth in Mary's writing as the book progresses. This book is heavy on dialogue and a little light on descriptive settings but it is so totally worth reading to meet the wonderful people who become an extended family at Serenity Lake Resort. I would compare this series to Robyn Carr's Virgin River and Thunder Pointe series and Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series...good people coming together to gain strength.
Ricky's character is spot on perfect of what a person goes through having to deal w/ a devastating injury which changes a man's ability to function in every day life. Plenty of hints are given to let you know who may be the main characters in the next book w/o leaving you totally hanging. This's book is easily a stand alone book and not one of those books that twists your arm behind your back so you have to buy the next one to know how the main characters worked through there issues.
