This is one of most amazing stories I have ever read. It was important to me, as the author was a classmate in graduate school, a co-worker with me at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta as we worked to earn extra money to get through school as night shift lab techs, and his story of his childhood and the trials and tribulations he and his family endured were incredible.
A very touching story about the man who gave it all and could’ve continued to give had circumstances and men’s wicked ways not interfered. A reminder of the 1930s dark days, back when a battered black man wouldn’t divulge the identity of his aggressor for fear of repercussions. Also, a reminder that we should have friends—true friends—people who’d stand with us in difficult times. I hope Henry Jr. still has photos of his Daddy’s mahogany desk, something to remember him by. As for readers, especially those who love reading biographies, From Healing to Hell is emotionally touching and right for you.
