But sometimes, when it rains, it pours.
Because retired copper Ray has been mugged. This is unfortunate – mostly for the thief, who ends up dead.
Ray should feel guilty. But doesn’t quite.
And that’s when The Last Laugh Club finds its calling.
There are other bad people out there. People who the world might be better off without.
And once you’ve had a taste, murder is strangely moreish . . .

Comfy read from start to finish, it’s a light hearted read that has a good comedic edge to it! It’s a good read if you’re looking for a simple read.
It centred around four strangers who all meet for the first time in Chemotherapy all suffering with various medical illnesses, with the infamous motto The first rule of Chemo club is you don’t talk about chemo club! Ray, a retired cop and Royal marine is going through chemo struggling with his personal battles when he is muggles in an alleyway. Unfortunately the thief ends up dead, which Ray feels no remorse. As he is struggling with his personal troubles he leans into the three other strangers to help overcome his struggles. And that’s when the last laugh club finds its calling, there are other bad people out there who the world will be better off without! (I don’t want to say too much as that would just be a spoiler)
But overall it’s a light hearted read if you’re looking for a book with zero commitment on.
This book was originally published as Terminally Kill - I don’t know why the paperback version has a different title but Terminally Kill has received better ratings than the Last Laugh Club!
It’s an interesting idea for a novel, the characters are well drawn and there’s lots of humour. I enjoyed the first half very much but found the events in the second part increasingly unlikely, bordering on ridiculous.
One star deducted because I noticed the book was very cynically republished with this title last year, presumably to try and cash in on the Thursday Murder Club movie coming out.
That and the pull quote talking about Richard Osman are highly misleading, because this is closer to Death Wish than any of his books. It's good, is what I'm saying.
Four cancer patients meet at their regular chemo sessions and become friends. Over time, they decide to right some of the wrongs that they are aware of., and some of those were very serious crimes. An excellent, emotional story. I loved it.
Meh wasn’t bad. Listened to the audiobook. Was a nice lighthearted read (or listen in my case), good to put in whilst I got my steps in. Probably won’t stick with me long term, hence the 3 stars.
