"The restitution of your soul lies in the integrity of your actions"
Broken and battered, but alive, Rin can only hope the same is true for all those she holds dear.
As they leave the terror of the Capital behind them, Rin discovers the true meaning behind her father's words. Now, like so many before her, she must choose between the few and the many. A choice that will teach her just how tangled the web has been woven by those she trusted most, and how far she is willing to go to protect the people she loves.
With the newly awoken power inside her calling, and the promise of help dangling almost within her reach, she will risk it all to claim back what the Empire has taken from her.
After devouring book one in 2024 I was so excited to get my hands on this book and finally catch up with Rin, I loved the first book in this series but I have to say this was even better! From the character development to the plot Boxall really brought their A game!
This novel was action packed from the start and there was never a dull moment for me, I quickly devoured this book within hours unable to put it down as each chapter got increasingly more nail bitting. I’m on the edge of my seat for the next book from this author!
This is the second book in the Immutavi series, and honestly… it completely blew me away. Not only did it live up to the first book, but for me, it was even better. If you haven’t read The Generation Archives yet, I’d strongly recommend starting there, as this book dives straight into the aftermath and continues the adventure without holding your hand.
From the very first pages, you’re thrown headfirst into the action, and it never lets up. There’s barely a moment to breathe, and I loved every second of it. The pacing is fast, intense, and incredibly addictive — the kind of book where you keep saying “just one more chapter” until suddenly it’s 2 a.m. I finished this in two days because I was completely invested, not just in the plot, but in the characters themselves.
Rin continues to be such a compelling character to follow. Her journey, the challenges she faces, and the world around her are all so vividly written that it’s easy to lose yourself in this story. The author does a fantastic job of expanding the world while keeping the emotional stakes high, making everything feel immersive and meaningful.
By the time I reached the end, I was already desperate for the next book. I genuinely cannot wait to see what adventures Rin gets herself into next. If you love fantasy filled with action, strong characters, and a world that pulls you in and refuses to let go, then this series is an absolute must-read.
The Abatement mandate is book 2 in the eagerly awaited Immutavi series, that is every bit if not more exciting and engaging as book 1.
The start of the book is brilliantly placed, with a great introduction to another key piece of the saga that sets you on the perfect path to the ongoing adventure.
The story continues with gripping plot twists, shock reveals, betrayal, new characters that are all beautifully written in a style that brings the whole journey to life, and really increases the whole reading experience.
The character development and interaction are really well written, the way the characters engage create drama, excitement and emotion, and really build on the tension. You can see the main character Rin develop as she has to deal with adult decisions beyond her years and her growing and changing relationship with Ieuan. My favorite character Lark has her usual razor sharp whip of a tongue and stroppy attitude, but has a romantic connection with a new character from the stacks which she aggressively tries to hide.
The creativity of new creatures and places like the tunnels and stacks are cleverly written and put you right into the heart of the story.
Book 2 is definitely another page turner you will not want to put down. The ending is another fantastic cliffhanger that will leave you counting the days until the release of book 3. A highly recommended read!
Endless thank yous go to Cranthorpe Milner and Rachael Boxall for being so incredibly kind and gifting me with a stunning physical edition of The Abatement Mandate - I’ll forever be grateful 💓
After falling in love with the Immutavi series back in early 2025, I waited all year for news of book 2 and Rachael did 👏 not 👏 disappoint 👏 Dare I say I even prefer book 2 to book 1??? It is clear Rachael’s honed her craft and the character development in this instalment is heartfelt and, in some cases, really shocking!
Still as action packed as The Generation Archives and with plenty on the line for our bunch of ‘brats’, I thoroughly enjoyed scurrying through the Void with Rin and her crew and I cannot wait!!! To see where they end up in the next book…… (crosses fingers and makes a wish 🤣)
Big shout out to Cornelius & Fievel - 100% my favourite characters, I adore them both and Cornelius absolutely cracks me up 🤣
Highly recommended for dystopian fans!
Perfect for lovers of: ✨found family ⌛️high stakes 🤫government secrets 😶🌫️dystopia 👴hilarious, cranky old men
The Abatement Mandate is a fantastic follow-up in the Immutavi Series and absolutely delivered on everything I loved in book one—then raised the stakes.
R.R. Boxall’s writing style continues to shine: sharp, immersive, and emotionally grounded. The plot twists were genuinely gripping (the traitor reveal??), and I loved the introduction of new allies who added depth and tension in all the right ways. Rin’s character growth was especially satisfying to watch—more layered, more conflicted, and clearly shaped by the choices she’s forced to make.
And that ending… another cliffhanger that left me staring at the page in disbelief. I’m fully invested now and counting down until book three releases at the end of the year. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys strong character arcs, betrayals, and high-stakes storytelling.
The immutavi series is a YA dystopian fantasy which primarily follows Rin, a young girl who has recently learnt that she carried the Tavi gene which likens you to a monster. In this book, we see Rin and her friends trying to over throw the empire and save innocent lives from being taken - human and Tavi alike. The story itself is filled with revelations, betrayals, sacrifice and Rin goes on a journey of strength. I loved getting to see more of the characters I loved from book 1 but equally missed some who take a back seat in this book.
I do wish I had time to re-read the first book before jumping into the second book of the immutavi series because it genuinely starts off straight from the last book and it would have saved me a little confusion at the beginning.
I said this last time and I will say it again, I’d love a map in this book as I think it would really help with picturing the world and the proximity of certain areas to one another.
I can picture book 3 being an epic conclusion with heart-break and depth to the character development based on the events of this book. I’d have liked a little more of that action and epic nature that this dystopian fantasy has the potential for.
The ending of this book was a set up for the ultimate betrayal and I wanted to scream at the characters because I can just picture how this will play out in book 3 and I’ll be angry for weeks to come.
Having loved the first book I was really looking forward to getting my hands on the next installment. It jumps into where Book One left off. It did take me a little while to get back into this amazing world but once there I was completely hooked.
The description of the settings of this story are so vivid that you feel you are going along with this mixed group of travellers. Rin is my favourite character and I love the way she has grown into herself and is coming to terms with who and what she is. At times I wanted to shake some sense into her, but her heart is always in the right place. I have also become very fond of the Band of Brothers as the story has progressed.
I finished the book in the early hours of this morning, scaring the cat by yelling- "You can't stop there..." I have promised myself that when Book Three comes out I'm going back to Book One and reading right through the story from start to finish! Lots of late nights ahead!
This book comes into the category of YA and being in my seventies I am far from that demographic! I think it's a book for anyone who loves a good fantasy/quest story to get lost in- Book Three can't come soon enough!
After really enjoying The Generation Archives, I was so excited when the publisher offered me an e-arc of the second book in the series, The Abatement Mandate.
As with the previous book, the writing and word building is just stunning. I loved seeing Rin again and going on this journey with her. The book is fast paced, fresh and interesting, filled with action and emotion. Boxall’s writing will have you instantly gripped and engaged, which is what I love about these books.
A brilliant dystopian fantasy series that more people need to know about!
Thanks so much again to the publisher for reaching out and sending me a copy!
This book jumps straight back in where the last book left off. Rin and the gang have escaped the Capital with the papers and need to get back to the cove and plan their next steps. As before, Rin is trying to figure out the truth of who she is and what it means for the world.
The world building is impressive, with vivid descriptions of the underground chamber system.
Rin, as before, was a strong and determined character. I felt like the relationships between the characters were different this time. There is so much more at stake now and emotions were high.
I was lucky enough once again to receive an arc copy, but I wanted my review to be my initial response so I have just in the last 5 minutes finished. The first book was excellent, the second was better. I felt every emotion. I laughed, I was tense, I was hopeful and I cried. Then I cried again and again and again. They were not all sad tears. R.R. Boxall truly draws you in and makes you care about the characters, even ones you haven't yet met. P.S... Still identify with Cornelius (and Marta). Brats....
