1.5✨DNFed at 68% the pros: has some useful information and mini history about various Jewish figures and teaching The cons: everything else. Honestly I found myself skipping a lot of sections because they were really boring. But what made me finally decide to DNF this book was when the author tried to address women in Judaism. His statement around why women can’t lead services was, “at the very least, having someone who is not obligated performing functions implies that none present who are obligated are also competent to do so.” What kind of nonsensical garbage is that. That statement made me realize he doesn’t actually know what he is talking about. The reality is that the lack of women in Judaism, bearing our stories etc, is a huge problem is Judaism that I don’t see many people trying to address and is a major reason why many Jewish women are non relgious or will turn to no orthodox streams of Judaism. Him spending two pages on the subject of women in orthodoxy just proves this point. Any way I hated this book which is why it took me so long to get close to finishing it
