Quand Lyana termine sa maîtrise, après des années d’études acharnées, elle compte bien profiter de la vie et de sa liberté nouvellement retrouvée. Alors qu’elle s’apprête à partir en road trip, sa tante Claire et sa cousine Célestine sont victimes d’un grave accident de la route. Lyana se précipite au chevet des deux blessées, ce qui l’oblige à retourner à Victoriaville, sa ville natale. Pendant la convalescence de Claire et de Célestine, toute la famille s’inquiète : qui s’occupera de la friperie de quartier qu’elles tenaient à bout de bras ?
Lyana et ses proches décident donc de prendre le commerce en main, du moins temporairement. Mais bientôt, les choses se compliquent… Entre la réapparition inattendue d’un amour de jeunesse, l’intrigante présence d’un ami de sa cousine et les évènements étranges qui se produisent à la boutique, la jeune femme en a vite plein les bras. Et si son retour dans son patelin d’enfance n’était pas qu’un simple contretemps, mais le début d’une toute autre aventure ?

je n'ai pas terminé le livre après avoir lu plus de 50% du livre. je pense que l'histoire se voulait bonne mais je trouve que sa tourne en rond avant qu'il y ait du développement. :)

I had to DNF at p. 230 because the writing is a bit off in places:
- The Rebecca and contest storyline seemed weak and far too obvious. Having Lyana's former school rival try to get her family to withdraw from a contest so her salon wins just didn't work for me. If it was someone else who was older and had a rivalry with Claire, that would have been better.
- Noam comes across as a creepy character and I found Lyana trusted him far too much far too soon without knowing anything about him. It's the second time they're together and they've barely talked and she's not remotely interested in him romantically, yet Lyana agrees to lying her head on Noam's lap in the hospital waiting room because she's apparently so tired and he, without asking for permission, strokes her hair as they wait for her cousin. Who does this with a man they don't know!? And she suddenly dreams of kissing him was random. Their first encounter was him entering the cousin's apartment with his key because he's the building owner and because he wanted to apologize to Lyana's cousin for something he did after she ended the friendship (abuse of power!). Then, while in the friperie and trying on clothes, Lyana needs help getting a too-small dress off. Her aunts are aware of the situation and then, instead of helping her, they get Noam, still a complete stranger to Lyana, to cut open the dress while she is half naked and he can see everything. What aunt in this day and age would do that to their niece!!!??? I did not like Noam at all and these scenes with him just grossed me out and seemed random and weird.

Also, the book dragged on somewhat. The cover is lovely, though.

Je sais pas trop pourquoi je me suis entêtée à le terminer…. Non seulement c’était long mais en plus il y avait beaucoup trop de choses qui ne faisaient pas de sens… De 1. Qui met sa vie complètement en suspens pour sa tante et sa cousine? Genre la famille au complet là? Je sais pas si c’est juste moi mais bon haha. 2. La vieille ennemie du secondaire qui envoie des menaces pour un …. Concours…….? Ouin, je pense pas non. 3. Les deux cousines qui tombent en amour fou en l’espace de 10 jours. Encore une fois, je ne crois pas. 4. La vieille tante qui est encore en amour et qui a jamais fait sa vie à cause du gars qu’elle a frenché a 15 ans? VOYONS?

Plein d’autres petits détails m’ont vraiment gossée, mais bref, je ne conseille pas cette lecture, désolée!

Ce livre ne faisait pas partie de ma PAL d'automne, mais je me suis tellement sentie interpellée par sa beauté. Les liens familiaux sont très forts dans ce roman et nous montre à quel point la famille répond toujours présente pour ses membres. Lyana est douce et pense toujours à sa famille avant ses propres besoins. On aimerait dont avoir une soeur ou une cousine comme elle. Bref j'ai bien aimé cette lecture attachante!
