Reviews for volume I of Read By Dawn were enthusiastic. Now with Volume II, editor Adele Hartley and her team have chosen a sparkling new list from over 500 worldwide entries to the second Read By Dawn call for entries. With stories selected from all over the world, this is another gripping and chilling selection which will keep horror fans awake - till dawn.
Like any good story, a collection of short stories should have a good first and then be peppered throughout with other memorable bits.
The good first story is Sharp Things by Joshua Reynolds. It considers a meetup with a sword swallower, a Ninja style hitman, and a group of hoodlums.
Other notables include: Pebble Toss and Dare by Bradley Michael Zerbe, Hostage Situation by Joe L. Murr, Adultery (which I think may be my personal favorite of this collection for its allusions) by F R Jameson, and Harvest by David Dunwoody.
Volume Three comes out in May 2008, so I'll have to find something else to read till then...
