One ruined friendship. One summer wedding. One chance to make things right.
Julie and Zoe were inseparable in their Brussels college days – until Julie suddenly ended things without explanation. Ten years later, Zoe has become a celebrated chef in London, while Julie has built a quiet life in Belgium. Neither expected to see the other again.
But a mutual friend’s wedding brings them face-to-face, and being near Zoe again stirs everything Julie thought she’d buried. From late-night conversations to stolen moments amid the chaos of the celebration, tensions rise, wine flows, and emotions neither can ignore start to take over.
As the weekend unfolds, both women are forced to confront what they’ve been avoiding for years. Secrets, unspoken desires, and second chances collide, leaving them to decide whether to take a leap of faith – or walk away from the love they never stopped feeling.
Once Bitten, Twice Fried is a slow-burn, second-chance romance for fans of Clare Lydon and Clare Ashton – full of longing, humor, and the thrill of finally risking it all for love.
Yasmine is getting married, and her best friend Julie is maid of honor and wedding planner. Everything is going OK until Yasmine announces she's gotten their old friend Zoe to cater the event... Julie panics a bit, as she had had a thing for Zoe back then.
Zoe is successful, has a actor boyfriend and a assistant who's also her bestie, so why does she feel dissatisfied? So she agrees to do the catering, and to reconnect with Julie, whom she's missed.
Julie is a bit standoffish at first, but they relax around each other as the bridal shower events go on. They talk, and eventually Julie confesses her crush... only for Zoe to admit she had been crushing on Julie back then too.
Yet at the same time, Zoe's fiancé Tom is starting to move ahead with their wedding prep.
Then Yasmine bolts from the wedding.
And Zoe suddenly flees the country, leaving Julie stricken. But true love (eventually) wins out. Good, solid read. I liked the heroines and main cast, and there were enough twists to keep it interesting. 4 stars out of 5
