Bridget loves her husband (every day) and all five of her kids (most days).
She’s a lawyer but does as little legal work as possible. She has three quarter horse geldings, a Holsteiner (jumping) horse, and she spends too much time riding and not enough time writing. (Or too much time writing and not enough time riding, depending on your perspective!)

WHAT IT'S ABOUT After growing up in foster care and losing his stable accounting job, Emerson Duplessis discovers he is the secret heir to a wealthy grandmother who despised his existence and will only leave him her fortune if he proves himself, marries well, and produces an heir. To survive her demands, he strikes a fake-relationship bargain with Elizabeth Moorland, a woman who desperately needs money and hides a secret that could unravel them both.
MY TAKE I struggled with the characters in the beginning of this one. I felt for Emerson's situation but lost a little respect for him when he went along with the demands, thinking he could buy his ex-girlfriend's love. And Elizabeth might have a good heart for animals, but she had a jerk attitude about the tray of champagne flutes.
But they came into their own and the ending was lovely.
I love getting the story of Emerson all grown up. And even though he never did allow Seren and Dave adopt him, you can tell by their relationship that he sees them as his mom and dad. And Elizabeth is such a sweetie character. She feels she has to play a part and her parents have always tried to keep up with the Joneses, which hasn’t always worked out. You would like Elizabeth would be jaded, but she has such a heart for the hurting, both animals and people. Absolutely love this story and can’t wait for the next book!
Family doesn't always mean blood. An interesting dynamic when Emerson meets his very wealthy biological grandmother, after barely squeaking by with a single mother and then being in foster care. Lessons all around about what really makes someone family. I loved the strong and realistic relationships.
