Great eyewitness to history story, well written and insightful. Nell was up close with Bill & Lois Wilson and had a unique opportunity to observe AA’s beginnings and development without deifying the founders or adding to the mythology of its origins. The chapters at the end, in the appendix, are some of the best and most interesting revelations about the importance of anonymity (to protect AA from AAs) and the Serenity Prayer (lots of origin stories there..). If you’re a member of AA or just curious about the movement add this to Not God by Ernest Kurtz and Letters from the Heart by Bill W. and The Soul of Sponsorship by Robert Fitzgerald.

A needed perspective of early A.A. by a nonalcoholic insider who was there from the beginning.
