Three Boy Scouts In Africa: On Safari With Martin Johnson

Rate this book
Here is a true story of the summer that three Boy Scouts spent hunting lions, elephants, giraffes and rhinos in British East Africa on safari with Martin Johnson.

Three Eagle Scouts were chosen from thousands to go as the guests of George Palmer Putnam, his son David Binney Putnam and David T. Layman, Jr. to the land where white men once feared to enter.

The wild animals that less lucky boys see in Zoos, Dick, Dave and Doug hunted and photographed in this magnificent big game paradise -- lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, leopards and the like.

They learned to distinguish between native tribes -- to know the Masai from the Swahili, the Marsi from the N'dorobos.

It is a very satisfying book to read. I grew up about 50 miles from the hometown of Martin and Osa Johnson, so reading about them is always exciting to me.

This is about three boyscouts who won a trip to Africa to go on a safari with the famous world explorers. It tells of their trip through England, France, and Italy on their way to meet up with the Johnsons for their African adventure.
They tell of lions, gazelles, and all the amazing wildlife and natives of the Serengeti.
