The Mortal Master: Book One Of The Vampire Harem

Rate this book
I was just a regular college guy. Until I killed a vampire and inherited a beautiful, deadly woman who can’t disobey me.

All I wanted was a quiet place to write my paper. Instead, I stumbled into a nightmare of blood, death, and a power I never asked for. One bizarre moment of self-defense turned me into the master of the vampire’s would-be victim, who rose from the dead with fangs and an uncontrollable hunger.

Now Ash is gorgeous, deadly, and bound to my commands—body, mind, and soul.

But she’s just the beginning.

The vampire I killed ruled an entire network of thralls. By killing him, I inherited them all. Vampires I’ve never met are now tethered to me… and some of them are coming for me. Whether to serve me, seduce me, or destroy me to take my place—I have no idea. But having power doesn’t mean having control. Every order I give could be a mistake, every indulgence could cost lives, and every hesitation could get me killed. If I don’t figure this out fast, I’m going to end up at the bottom of the vampire food chain... or worse.

This is my story. How I went from mortal prey to vampire master.

The Mortal Master is the start of a dark vampire harem fantasy packed with power struggles, supernatural thralls, and a male lead who is forced to either embrace his dominant role in a supernatural world or be destroyed by it.

This book was pretty good, but not great. It's fairly short at 241 pages, ending before it felt like it really got going.

The MC is a college student who, in a bid to get his paper due the next morning, ends up on a building roof because his roommate is getting lucky. While up there, he hears a partial scream, and ends up interrupting a vampire feeding. Through sheer luck, he accidentally kills the vampire, but that doesn't solve his problems. It just makes them different when the woman he thought was dead suddenly attacks him. Then reacts strangely when he tells her to not attack him. Somehow, he controls the newly created vampire. Even though he's mortal.

The MC has two harem members by the end of the book, both vampires. They were both sorority sisters at the same sorority, and apparently have been lovers before. So hey have no compunction about sharing him. And apparently vampires can survive on semen in place of blood, so at least the first is doing just that.

There's a lot that hasn't been explained, and the world building is pretty sparse about how vampires function in this setting. There are hints but not explanations. There are multiple factions that we know almost nothing about. Again, the book was short.

I will probably read the next book in the series.
