This book is a beautiful reflection on the turmoil that every parent faces at various phases of life. Before the World Gets to You really tapped into my silent language of parenting thoughts that I have every day. Ott reflects on and sheds light on our deep desire to protect our children's essence while healing our own.

As a parent of five years, this book resonated with me in ways it might not have before I had children. It perfectly captures the delicate tension we all feel: the desire to provide the material comforts we lacked, while ensuring our children aren't immune and apathetic to the realities of the world.
These letters aren't a dry parenting manual, they are lived truths. The author focuses on giving children a foundation and a moral compass for their thoughts rather than just gadgets or brands. What I found most profound was how these pages helped heal my own inner child. It reminded me that while we may "break and bruise" as parents, those moments are often the catalysts for rebuilding something stronger for the next generation.

If you want to arm your children with a voice and a sense of self before the world tries to rewrite them, this is a must-read.

It’s been a long time since I had read such sweet and heartfelt account of an author, and reading this book was refreshing to say the least. The book is a compilation of short notes and sincere letters written by a mother who is striving to bring up her children mindfully and consciously; to her children. The writings discuss experiences of both the parent and the children’s experiences and exchanges, and the mindset with which the author seems to tackle each such interaction is commendable- she is firm yet gentle, careful yet full of empathy. While reading, I could feel how full of love for her children the author’s heart is. Even though the book is not meant to be a parenting guide, I am sure that today’s parents could learn a lot from this book. Reading the accounts felt like I was sitting right in front of the author, fully engrossed in such a wholesome conversation with her. I loved how each chapter ended either with her sending love to her children, or with some other positive note that just made it all better. Anyone who is craving for some wholesome, heartfelt and loving moments, should surely pick this book up.

This book touched a quiet part of my soul, reminding me how vital it is to ground children in their own truth before the world tries to shape them. I found myself lingering on the idea that what we give our kids—beyond material things—is a foundation of faith, voice, and self-awareness. One line that stayed with me was, “Because the world, as it stands now, doesn't demand brands or the latest gadgets, it demands foundation,” which felt like a gentle nudge to focus on what truly matters. It made me feel hopeful and reflective, as if we’re all building something lasting with every moment of genuine connection. The book’s honesty and warmth made me realize that giving our children a compass is perhaps the most precious gift of all. It reminded me that real strength comes from roots, not just wings.

This book,"Before the World Gets to You" by Liza Hnamte Malhotra is not just a book but it's a sanctuary of warmth, honesty and maternal wisdom.

This book has been written as a collection of letters, reflections and heartfelt conversations between a mother and her children. The book will also touch your heart with it's soulful storytelling.

The author has penned down her thoughts and emotions with utter tenderness and love. In endeavour to enlighten other parents, she indirectly gives some invaluable life lessons in this book.

The author doesn't write preachy and some random stuffs but rather she speaks from her own experience which has bruised, softened and strengthened her as a mother of two children.

The author doesn't pretend to have all the answers, instead she celebrates the power of simple, impossible and profound questions her children ask.

In this journey, she realizes that motherhood is not just about raising children but about being raised by them in return which is so true and aspiring for every parents alike.

This is not a parenting manual but it reminds us that in a world obsessed with perfection, speed and social validation, the truest gift we can give to our children is a sense of belonging, roots and self worth.

I just finished reading Before The World Gets to You: Letters, Conversations and Reflections by Liza Hnamte Malhotra, and honestly… my heart is full. ❤️

This book feels like sitting down with a warm cup of chai while someone wise gently shares their soul with you. ☕✨

At its core, it’s a mother’s love letter to her children, filled with truths, reflections, and gentle guidance.

What touched me most was how real and raw it felt. 🌸

Liza doesn’t sugarcoat life, instead, she shares her lived experiences, the bruises that shaped her, the lessons that came too late for her but right on time for her kids.

And through that honesty, you can feel the strength of her love. 🌺

This isn’t a parenting manual (and I love that!).

It’s more like a compass for the soul 🧭 reminding us that what really matters isn’t gadgets or brands, but faith, roots, and self-worth.

It’s the kind of book that makes you pause, reflect, and want to hold your loved ones a little tighter. 💫

If you’re looking for something heartfelt, grounding, and deeply human, this book is a gem you won’t want to miss! 🌍💌

The title of the book sounded intriguing, and as I read, I realised that this was not a typical parenting guide. It’s a mother’s honest and heartfelt attempt to give her children the wisdom she learned a little too late in life. Through her own struggles and wounds, she has found strength and clarity, and this book becomes her way of passing that strength on to her kids. It gives the kids a chance to understand who they are amidst the world’s noise and pressure, which will begin to shape them.
The author reminds the kids[and us] what really matters and how our ethnicity and culture hold value in a society that may see us differently. Faith, identity, self-worth, and the courage to use our own voice are what keep us steady. The reflections encourage readers to slow down, think, breathe, and reconnect with their core instead of constantly trying to keep up.
The writing is beautiful and reads like a letter to the kids. The language is simple yet poetic. In each page, we see the conversation that the author had, and it is filled with warmth and reassurance.
The book explores themes such as growing up, emotional exhaustion, relationships, self-doubt, and the pressure to conform to a pace set by others. It does not offer dramatic solutions or quick fixes. Instead, it gently acknowledges those feelings and that they are a part of being human.
I like how the author has written this with total honesty. It holds space for heartbreak, peer pressure, and life’s unexpected storms, while also offering the comfort of unconditional love and steady guidance. Some sections resonated deeply, and I was able to relate to some situations in life.
In all, it is a beautiful and comforting book, perfect for slow reading and quiet reflection.

Have you ever thought of writing a book just for your children to pass on your values, lessons, and everything life has taught you? I’ve thought about it many times. But I always wondered how. This book made that dream feel easier, clearer, and possible.

It feels like a parent sitting with their child, gently passing down morals, principles, and life lessons. The way it speaks about respect, feminism, wisdom versus smartness, and the power of our choices truly stayed with me.

What touched me most is the simplicity. No heavy language, no complicated metaphors just honest words written so children can understand, and adults can reflect.

I didn’t expect this book to move me so deeplyI’m filled with highlights, notes, and gratitude. My only regret is reading it on Kindle. I want this as a paperback, something I can one day place into my children’s hands.

This book isn’t just for children. It’s for parents. It’s for anyone who believes the world can be kinder and that our learnings can make it so.

Highly recommended 💯

Reading this book felt very comforting. It honestly felt like I was reading someone’s personal diary. While it is written for kids, it didn’t feel limited to them at all. It felt like the author was talking to everyone, sharing her thoughts, lessons, and things she has learned along the way. Many times, I caught myself thinking, I wish someone had told me all this when I was growing up. I wish I had this kind of guidance too. And I know a lot of people from our generation feel the same way. Not because our parents didn’t love us enough, but because they didn’t always know how to express these things. This book kind of fills that gap. Simple, warm, and very reassuring!
