This Quiet Violence

Rate this book
Violet Gallei has survived cancer – but surviving was only the beginning.
At twenty-six, officially in remission and eager to reclaim her life. But freedom doesn’t come easy when the past refuses to stay buried. Her marriage has turned violent. When her husband vanishes after a brutal attack, Violet dares to hope that she’s finally free.
But then the messages start. The feeling of being watched. The creeping fear that her husband might not be gone at all.
At first, she tries to rationalize it — trauma, anxiety, paranoia. But when her best friend is nearly killed and her sister narrowly escapes the same fate, denial is no longer an option.

Someone is hunting her.

And they’re getting closer.

As Violet digs deeper into the web of shadows surrounding her, she finds herself drawn to Eric – the sarcastic, unreadable doctor who helped save her life. He’s calm, controlled — and possibly more dangerous than she realizes. With no one else to trust, Violet begins to rely on him even when her inner voice screams she might be stepping into another trap.

Fear turns to fury.

And Violet is done running.

With the people she loves under attack, she’ll do whatever it takes to protect them – even if it means becoming something more dark and twisted than whatever’s chasing her.

This is the first book in The Violent Violets series. It shows the journey and devastation that leads to female rage, and ends on a cliffhanger.

Content This book contains dark themes such as domestic violence, general violence, adult language, sexual content, and mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and panic attacks.

Remember, your mental health matters more than reading this book.

Im still processing everything but I would give this more stars if I could. I absolutely loved it. The way it was wrote, the characters, twists n turns throughout the story, definitely an emotional rollercoaster and that spice 🔥🔥🔥🔥. My husband would be talking but I would be so consumed in this book he would just laugh when I finally looked up 😂. I will warn you it does end on a cliffhanger that has you asking WTH is going to happen but I would encourage everyone that likes dark romance to definitely give this a read. Like always tho read those tw 😉

Its so difficult to describe how blown away I was by this book. Its the kind of story that sucks you in. I was immersed in it like I was living it. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I’m usually good at predicting plot twists.. but no! I DID NOT anticipate that it at all but it just pieced together so perfectly. And the spice? Blushing and kicking my feet (for 12, 13 pages?) 🤭 I’m still processing the cliffhanger and I can’t fathom having to wait. If you’re looking for an amazing psychological thriller, please, please read this.

From the first page (the first few lines really) I was sucked into this book. Debut novel or not, the writing in this book is *chef’s kiss*. I found myself highlighting lines that felt like salted caramel ice cream after a warm summer day—so smooth and hits you right in the feels.

With a full cast of unique characters, I could picture the scenes with ease. Even halfway through the book, I knew exactly what each character would say or do in different situations. The author does such an excellent job developing their personality on the page.

I found myself relating to the main character, Violet, so much from her desire to take back her own life, to feeling trapped in her abusive relationship, fighting her own desires, and the fear of not being in control of your own life. Violet is such a complex character. I loved seeing her growth and can’t wait for book two!

I could drone on about what I liked about each character, why James was my favorite (duh), why I’d marry Eric in a heartbeat (All of Vi’s hilariously unhinged thoughts about him came directly from my brain), and on and on but let’s get to the good parts…

The TENSION. UGH! If I had a physical copy that poor thing would be HURTING from all the abuse I’d be doling out, smacking the pages like “What?! Just kiss him already!” Just when you think the romance is in full force, dangling in front of your face, it’s SNATCHED out of reach. WHY?! BUT when Dahlia delivers…holy moly. HOLY MOLY. I read that scene (wink) three times before moving on. THREE TIMES! Man. She does not disappoint.

AND THEN THERE’S THE STALKER! My stomach DROPPED during one of the suspenseful scenes and I had to turn the lights on. I got the chills just now writing about it. *heeby jeeby shakes* The suspense be suspensing (how many times can I say suspense in one review?). Excellent build-up. Fear-inducing. Leaves you wondering WHO is leaving these creepy calling cards. AND THAT ENDING! First of all HOW DARE YOU. Second….when is book two coming out?

Five stars. No notes. Man I need a drink.

I’m still recovering. This Quiet Violence absolutely wrecked me in the most beautiful way. You know that kind of book hangover where you just sit there staring into space, trying to process what you just read?

Yeah. That.

The writing is so sharp and immersive that I forgot I was even reading — it felt like living inside the story. Every emotion hit like a tidal wave, but it’s that twist, that twist, that completely took me out. I didn’t see it coming at all, and yet... when it happened, every piece clicked perfectly into place.

And then that cliffhanger? Brutal. Cruel, even. The kind that makes you want to shake the book and demand answers, but in the best possible way. Oh, and the spicy scene? So. Damn. Spicy. The kind that makes you blush, grin, and maybe fan yourself a little.

This is one of those rare books you want to press into everyone’s hands just so you can watch their face when they get to that part. Haunting, brilliant, utterly unforgettable — and I need the next book yesterday.

This was my most anticipated book of fall 2025 and it DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT.
We have side charectors you're going to love, we have sassy banter, real world issues, female rage, suspense, twists and turns like crazy- this book will have you suspicious of everyone and questioning everything till the last moment.
My complaint? I read it first so NONE OF MY FRIENDS HAVE READ IT YET!!!
I need everyone to read this YESTERDAY.
I need to talk to people about this book!!

CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS! It's not a light fluffy book!

This Quiet Violence by Black Dahlia completely blew me away. From the first page, I felt like I was living inside the main character’s head, like every thought, every fear, every moment was happening to me. The authors writing is so real and vivid that you don’t just read the story, you become the story. What I loved the most is how intense it all feels without ever being over the top. The emotions hit hard, but the writing is beautiful too, and it sticks with you even after you put the book down. And can we talk about that ending?! I haven’t felt this kind of cliffhanger in forever. It’s the kind of ending that makes you yell at the book, flip pages hoping for more, and then realize you have to wait. It reminded me of old-school cliffhangers that left you desperate for the next part.

It honestly only took me this long to finish because I work and go to school full-time—I was sneaking in little chunks whenever I could. I read on my breaks at work, during lunch, before class, and even in the car for just a minute before stepping back into reality.

This story pulled me in so much that I couldn’t help but smirk at the author’s humor, gasp at the jaw-dropping moments, and even giggle my way through a certain 13-page scene 🤭. The writing feels natural, entertaining, and full of personality, making it hard to put down once you start.

Reading the acknowledgments from the author and hearing her story after reading this book, you can feel the passion and dedication that was put into this. As a first time author, I would recommend this book and I’m excited for the second book. I also think I may dabble in arc reading more often.

This Quiet Violence by Black Dahlia follows Violet as she tries to heal from her past, while being stalked in the present. How far is she willing to go to make sure history doesn't repeat itself?

This book was SO good! I can easily relate it to a Frida McFadden novel with the amount of twists and turns it has. Violets struggles are understandable with everything she's been through. The self doubt, unworthiness, and sarcasm to mask her true feelings only hammer home what she went through. And the end! I was fully reeling, struggling to breath and process what the heck just happened. I still feel speechless. Brava.

I had the honor of ARC reading for this amazing book by Black Dahlia!!! The twists and turns in this book left me dizzy and on the edge of my seat the entire time! It also left me in a book hang-over for days! ( Especially after that ending, mam!) This is one of those books that you can’t put down, and even when you have to, you are still thinking about it or dreaming about it!

The main character, Violet, is such a well developed character. I fell in love with her sarcastic attitude, and her discovery of her inner strength that she didn’t believe she had (but oh did she find it in this book!!) She is the true poster woman for resilience, never giving up even when it might mean putting her own life in danger. I loved how her character arc grew through-out the story. She continued to find herself, battle her fears , and fought inch by inch to heal.

In each page of the story beautiful crafted words by Dahlia, she makes each on of these characters come alive. You feel their pain, passion ( and boooooy is that passion rewarding, and HOT!) We can even feel their sorrow, anxiety and struggles, as if we were right there with them. There were many times I had to reach for my box of tissues while I bawled my eyes out! At the same time, there were so many times that I laugh so hard I snorted, because the BANTER in this book is unmatched! I LOVE good banter, and this book is full of it!

I also loved the found family feel of the characters as well. It was so real. They fought, argued, laughed and cried together, but they also loved fiercely and always went to bat for each other at the “drop of a hat.” I can’t wait to see each of their stories develop further as the story continues!

Overall, I loved every aspect of this beautifully written book, and I will be sharing my love for it with everyone I know! This book is a must read, and I can’t wait for book 2!

Thank you for the privilege of letting me read your amazing book!

Arrrrrrgggggg!!!! What a cliffhanger!!! I need the next book now. This book was an intense and wild ride. I was hooked from the first page and gave up some precious sleep to devour it. The writing was beautiful, descriptive and relatable. The characters were real, with a friend group I want to join. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a dark, psychological thriller with a bit of spice!

This Quiet Violence is a beautifully written, emotionally charged story. The mental struggles are painfully real, and the mystery and suspense has you trapped right from the start. I was constantly trying to piece together all the hints and clues as I read, determined to predict the ending. And, while I got the end PARTIALLY correct…I was still in full shock as I turned the final page.

Black Dahlia did a phenomenal job of keeping my mind engaged to the point I literally could NOT put the book down. Even if I only had a couple minutes to read a page, I’d open it up and get going. The imagery was one of my favorite things, along with the character growth. It wasn’t a magical jump from broken to badass, but rather a beautiful depiction of someone who has been knocked down over and over finding a way to get their feet beneath them. There’s stumbles and falls, but that doesn’t stop Violet from growing and moving forward.

Genuinely, this is an amazing debut, and I’m dying for more. I highly recommend reading and trying to put the puzzle pieces together as you go!

This has all my favourite genres mixed into one book. It's not often that I can't predict what is going to happen in a story but this one stumped me right up to the last page. Twisty to the end.

A must-read!

Wow, this literary masterpiece completely captivated my soul in the most enchanting manner! You know that feeling after finishing a book and simply zoning out, trying to fully absorb its essence? That’s precisely what transpired for me. And that cliffhanger? Ouch. It leaves you yearning for answers, but in the most exhilarating way possible.

This was my first psychological thriller romance, and I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did.

Thank you Black Dahlia for letting me arc read your book.

This book sent me right into my feelings. The way it is written made me feel like I was a part of the friend group, but without a speaking part. The twists and turns, I wasn't sure which way I was looking. We have all levels of abuse, trauma, witty humor and that spice!!!! Oh and let's not forget about that ending. Why oh why. In need of book two please!!

Quiet Violence completely blew me away. From the very first page, I felt pulled right into the world—the writing is so immersive that it’s like you’re standing beside the characters, feeling every moment with them. The way the Gods were woven into the story was such a vibe—I’m totally here for that kind of representation, and it added so much richness to the overall narrative. The characters had real depth, their choices and struggles felt genuine, and the storyline itself was engaging from start to finish. It’s the kind of book that lingers with you long after you put it down. Highly recommend!

I’m still reeling from This Quiet Violence. This book didn’t just pull me in it swallowed me whole. The writing is razor-sharp and hauntingly immersive, the kind that makes you forget you’re even reading because you’re too busy feeling. Every emotion crashes down like a tidal wave, but it’s that twist that moment where everything you thought you knew shatters that left me staring at the page in stunned silence. I didn’t see it coming, and yet, when it happened, every detail slid into place with terrifying perfection. The love interest and main character hooked me from the start, but it’s the quiet menace underneath the stalker, the shadows, the not knowing who you can trust that had my heart racing. And that ending? Cruel. The kind of cliffhanger that makes you want to throw the book across the room and then immediately pick it up again.

This book had me from the very beginning. The way I was giggling and then five seconds later gripping my kindle our of concern. I felt like I was in the story, living it with the characters. The characters are written so well, the plot, pacing, everything about this story is amazing. If I could rate this more than 5 stars I absolutely would. You wrote a KILLER story and I am so proud of you for doing it. I cannot WAIT for the next book.

I am speechless….And that doesn’t happen often. I really don’t even know where to start.

This book sucked me in from page one and kept me so enthralled that I didn’t want to put it down.

The characters in this book have me feeling all kinds of things and the plot twists. One minute I think I know what is happening and then a curve ball comes and throws my thoughts and feelings all over the place.

This story has a lot of things…illness, physical, verbal and emotional abusive, past trauma, sarcasm, romance and spice.

This was probably my first psychological thriller romance and I am hooked.

Be prepared because it leaves you with a HUGE cliff hanger and I have so many questions. I need book 2 immediately! lol. But seriously this book is so good! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Holy smokes! I just finished this book and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the on the edge of your seat sensation this book instills. I felt captivated at all points. The humor was so great, I laughed out loud so much throughout reading. The characters are so complex, they felt real… like I could reach out and touch them. I was so engrossed that multiple times I jumped from reality pulling me out of a suspenseful scene.

Speaking of suspenseful scenes, the eerie tones in this book have you questioning everyone and everything. This book is a who-done-it thriller, that has you constantly questioning yourself on what you think might be the conclusion. I yo-yo’ed consistently, creating a sense of confusion and dread in the best way.
The book truly brought a sense of inner strength combined with this back of my mind wonder of who I talk to and how I talk to them. The realism of the situation is scary and potential for something like this to happen is not at all outlandish…. Which is truly horrifying. I will be thinking about this book for a long time. This Quiet Violence will dominate of my mind for a long time to come. Between the beautiful writing structure, the relatability to the complex characters and relationships, and the multi-layered depth to the insanely creative plot I can’t wrap my head around the fact that this is Black Dahlia’s first book! Mind freaking blown!
This writer shows insane depth in skill and I absolutely cannot wait to read more from her. I need book 2 now!!! Especially with the cliff hanger. Why would you do us like this!!! We need resolution!!! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!

Note: this book is insanely spicy as well. I had to put the book down a few times to breathe a heavy exhale as I processed because wow 😳 was it steamy. The sexual tension and humor also pull in the humanity of the relationships even more.

*Chef kiss* 10/10 Highly recommend! Will re-read for sure!!!

I had the privilege of being part of Black Dahlia's ARC team and was able to get early access to her book. I had only seen snippets of her book before but I had no idea what to expect going into her book. It is simply amazing. I read the book in an entire day and had to force myself to put it down. I was hooked from the start and the book had me guessing until the very end. Dahlia is a fantastic storyteller able to weave in tidbits of information early into the story that then grow and bloom as the plot progresses. Her characters are complex, flawed and so relatable.

The main character, Violet Gallei, is dark, sarcastic and everything you want as an FMC. And the BANTER! So effing good! I rarely laugh out loud when reading but there were a few moments I had to stop reading I was laughing so hard. Which was good, because this is a dark suspenseful book and Dahlia was able to balance the truly horrifying scary moments with that Violet’s dark humor.

Pay attention to the trigger warnings of the book, because Dahlia dove deep in this book. But if you’re a fan of morally grey love interests, you should definitely read this book.

I’m always hesitant to give out a five star rating but Dahlia earned it.

I can confidently say This Quiet Violence is one of my favorite books and I can't wait to read what comes next. The twists had me enthralled, the characters had me obsessed, and the cilffhanger? That hand me staring out the window at 2 in the morning. It's one of those endings that can just live with you for days, leaving you in a hangover but you can't quite find the right book to fix it.

Violet is one of my top FMCs. She's stubborn, quirky, and her emotional journey made me feel seen in a way many books haven't. Her growth was incredible, and that's just the first book! The humor and darkness were balanced perfectly.

It's not often I want to re-read books, but this one? I'll definitely be going back to it, especially when we get book 2.

I need more.

This Quiet Violence is by far one of the best books I've picked up in a long time. From the start I instantly connected with Violet. Parts of the story struck home in the worst way, but the best way for a book. I laughed, I cried, I screamed. Be warned: If you pick this book up you wont be able to put it down. Every twist and turn is suspenseful and her prose is beautiful. I can't wait for book two to come out.
This Quiet Violence is definitely a book you'll have a hangover from, and I still haven't found something to cure it.

Okay. Ive been brewing on what to say in here. I gave it a three stars only because I pushed through this book, it was hard to finish. Only because its not my normal genre. Ive known Dahila for awhile now and was so excited for this book. I hate to say it was not my top read, but im a pretty fantasy based reader so take that into mind. There were so many scenes where I was crying because dahila knows how to write the trigger scenes so well, it really hit home. As a DA and SA survivor the way she wrote this book really got me emotionally. The scenes are so smooth and the emotion is just in every word. The strength our FMC has is beyond me, and I strive to have that. After everything she has gone through to still find that female rage within her is outstanding. Mmm. Eric is ughhhh. Man everytime he came on the page I nearly melted. he can stalk me and keep a eye on me anyday. Connor. Yeah he can burn in the fires of hell. Ugh he made me so mad in this damn book I wanted to throw my kindle so many times. Now the spice. Bruhhhh.....I was quite mad actually. Ugh Dahila. I went into this book expecting alot more spice, and while I was pretty upset with the lack of it, she made up with a 13 page spicy scene. Bruh what. Yes 13 pages. I still would've loved some more, but im just a spice lover, so a girl can never have too much spice. Lol. This book is a great read. The tension, the omg moments, the gut wrenching pain that she put on the pages. Even though it took me forever to read it, i still cant wait for the next one. Because who doesnt love a female rage moment thst leads to a next book. Def worth a read if your into female rage, obsession, overprotectiveness, yearning. There are some dark scenes in this book, so make sure to read the trigger list. But go, run....grab this book cuddle up and take it for a spin.

When I read This Quiet Violence, I had no idea what I was in store for. Black Dahlia takes you on a rollercoaster ride with this one.
When I read stories, they are very predictable for me but Dahila had me guessing the entire ride. I had no idea what was going to happen and it was refreshing. That ending left me with my jaw on the floor.
I am not impatiently waiting for the second book to find out what happens. I’m sure the second book will leave me on the edge of my seat like this first one did.
If you want female rage with an FMC who is strong and a survivor, give this book a read.

Incredible read, so immersive. I can't believe this is a debut author! I could feel the emotion bleeding off the page. I loved the banter between the characters, the tension between the leads was off the charts. Really unique story with lots of twists and turns, not at all cookie-cutter stalker variety. Highly recommend!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ // 🌶🌶🌶

The Quiet Violence was such a good read. The book is mostly in Violet's POV, you get a couple chapters that are short but are in Male POVs that are significant to Violet. However, I have to admit that I was not ready for the cliff hanger. There was no right for it to hit that hard. I could have screamed. I can't wait for book 2.
