This book is based on notes taken at a retreat given by Fr. Thomas Philippe, OP. At times, it feels "choppy," as one would expect under these conditions. Secondly, it is a book originally written in French, so again, the reader can occasionally feel somewhat "removed" from Fr. Philippe's direct thoughts or intentions.

All this being said, I felt the book was sound and a good introduction to what it means to BE "contemplative." I am not Catholic, but felt it was an interesting book.
