Collection of articles on Herwarth Walden, redactor of Der Sturm journal and well-known for his promoting of expressionist artists in Germany. Walden moved to Soviet Union in 1932, to escape the newly Nazi-dominant Germany. He chose to go to Soviet Union since he idealize the cultural possibilities there, based on the wealth of Soviet cultural life during the 1920s. The problem was that he arrived when the regime rejected that same cultural vanguard Waldman was so enthusiastic about. In Soviet Union he had very little contact with local artists, was prevented from doing anything pertaining to art, and ended up under arrest as an alleged German spy in 1941. Waldman died in Saratov half a year after his arrest.
