When twin sisters Ana and Tara Spark run away from their coldhearted stepdad, they are determined to return to the only place they ever felt at home. The only problem is...that place is in Montana, they are in California, and their means of transportation consist of their own feet and a couple spunky mustang mixes.
Best friends Marty and Eugene refuse to be separated, even if they have no idea where to go in their rickety Volkswagen Beetle once their loveless foster home is left in the dust of its barely attached wheels.
Gamma and Nana were neighbors for years. Now they are restless roommates unsure of their ages but sure they are too young to be cooped up in a nursing home.
What do you get when the escape paths of these mismatched runaways unexpectedly collide along the same stretch of railroad tracks? The answer is more adventure than any of them bargained for.
Aiyana Star is the author of the Lost Canyon adventure series, among others. She was homeschooled and grew up with such a love for books that when she was grounded (which was rarely of course *wink*) it was usually from reading. She lives in the Rocky Mountains, where nearly half the year is winter and bears occasionally wander through the yard.
MAIN IMPRESSION First off, I'd like to say that this book was amazingly well written. The author, I've always felt, has a beautiful way of twisting reality into descriptive, witty scenes. The things she brought to attention were so detailed, things you wouldn't think of, things that add personality to the pages and make the world a little more believable, because you can see it so clearly in your mind. THINGS I LIKED Marty was definitely my favorite! He was the most enjoyable character, the funnest, and the gentlest (besides the grannies, of course). Ana was my second favorite. I was secretly hoping that the two of them (Marty and Ana, I mean) might eventually see what a good couple they would make. :) THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE This is just my own personal opinion, but I tend to enjoy a more serious read. This book was very exciting, always kept me on my toes, and continued to draw my attention back to the book. However, there were several scenes that I found unrealistic, and there was also a constant humorous overtone to the story. The author did an amazing job with the humor, however, and it was all clean and good and enjoyable. Again, wonderfully well-written! Just not exactly the type of book I am used to reading. LAST THOUGHTS If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed, adventure-crazed book, then this is a must read! Definitely read the second book in the series! I enjoyed it so much, and found myself deeply attached to the characters. A great series!
