A scientist by background, he spent many years as Director of Science and Head of the National Gallery’s scientific laboratory, which is well known for its wide-ranging technical studies of paintings. Dr. Ashok Roy is a leading authority on the materials and techniques of European Old Master paintings.
He has been editor of the National Gallery Technical Bulletin since 1978.
