The Oz Collection #1

Glinda: The Good Witch

Rate this book
In the fractured kingdom of Oz, "goodness" is an illusion, power belongs to the persuasive, and one choice can shape a destiny. Born into privilege but tainted by scandal, Glinda Fairmoor's life changes forever when she defies tradition by choosing a forbidden Pink gem at her Moonshine Coronation––the same once chosen by Seraphina, the Forsaken Witch of legend.

Branded an outcast, Glinda navigates the brutal world of SilverCrest Academy, forging an unlikely bond with Omission and a tense sisterhood with Gisella, the prophesied saviour of Oz. But behind Oz's shimmering facade lies a darker her father, Dainhurst, leads a campaign to destroy magic under the guise of prophecy.

Forced into uneasy alliance with the manipulative Wizard of Oz, Glinda is drawn into a web of lies, betrayal, and loss––including the transformation of her closest friend, Zelphira, into the Wicked Witch of the West. As Dorothy Gale's arrival threatens to unravel everything, Glinda must confront her complicity and reclaim her stolen power.

The GOOD Witch is a powerful reimagining of Oz––where legends are shaped by survivors, and the price of legacy is never paid in gold.

Glinda is a story about two misunderstood women, and about the choices they make to survive. The story is heartbreaking and, at the same time, heartwarming. It is about courage, vulnerability, betrayal, kindness, power, and love. There are heroes and villains, many twists and turns along the way, making it an enjoyable read.
Readers of fantasy will love Glinda. This book has detail and background to fully immerse yourself in the story about Glinda, her family, her friendships, her loves, and her journey and transformation to her final destination.
I think you will love this story. I know I did.

Did Chat GPT reimagine Oz here? That’s what it feels like. I’m all for someone trying to flex their creative muscles, but this is like a painful fan fiction from an AI prompt more than someone’s creative thought process transforming the world of Oz. Nearly 554 pages for what?! I made it to 350 and then had to skim the rest because I was in disbelief. I believed the 5 star reviews here and then realized a lot of the 5 star reviews are in fact bot/fake accounts. What a shame. Hope the author puts that $6 from kindle to maybe edit things down a bit, tighten the storyline and reevaluate their own writing.

Glinda the Good Witch by R.W. Adams is a magnificent retelling of Glinda and her origin story. We are quickly made to understand the significance of politics and the perception of the people, both which can be easily twisted in the hands of the wrong people. Often the characters that are supposed to be good, are actually quite selfish and rotten, but they maintain their positive image with the people. And those that are truly good are downcast and trodden. Glinda starts off as the latter until she finally transforms into someone the people can believe in because of her new found beauty. But when the ugly green Zelphira enters the scene, people so easily cast her as a terrible person and eventually as the Wicked Witch of the West. But she has more patience and self-restraint than most any other person would have in her place.

The bond that is eventually built between the two girls, Glinda and Zelphira, is heartfelt and beautiful, but also tragic. And the hardships they face seem unbearable. The end of the book will leave you wanting to know more and I can’t wait to read what happens next.

Glinda the Good Witch is a darker, more emotional take on a familiar story. It challenges what “good” and “wicked” mean, which makes Glinda feel like a real, complex character rather than just a symbol.

The worldbuilding was very rich and genuinely made me want to live in Oz, and the story leans into deeper themes like identity and prejudice, and some moments genuinely stick with you after reading.

This is not a light Oz retelling, but I think that’s what makes this story stand out.

An impressive read - this book reminds me of the hit "Wicked" in some ways - though, it might just be genre. I sincerely enjoyed the read. Some parts COULD have been better - but impressive! All in all, it's a solid 4 for me.

Whoever put this on reddit to review bomb, thank you! I found a book I thoroughly enjoyed. Who knew there could be so much depth added to a cartoon character. If you do pick this up, you will be mesmerised by the story and most importantly feel the trials, joys of these characters.
