For anyone interested in reading about the gardens designed by America's foremost woman landscape designer, this is a nice overview.

The list of Farrand's commissioned gardens at the end of the books is astounding. The books is useful in that it describes the trees, shrubs and plants that were used most often by Farrand in her garden designs. Nice information if you've only gotten to see a few of her gardens in person. And it made me happy to read that some of my favorite common garden plantings--vinca, hydrageas, forsythias, honeysuckles, and spireas--were also among Ms. Farrand's favorites to use.

Also, I was surprised at her large amount of garden design work on college campuses --large and small--cross this country. She was an amazing woman.
