The Grey Knights strike with overwhelming force – each a warrior mystic whose martial prowess is matched by his psychic and sorcerous might. Clad in warded plate of truesilver and adamantine, armed with crackling Nemesis force weapons and devastating psy-active firearms, they are all ruthless destroyers. It can be no other way, for this Chapter wages a war in utmost secrecy against the Dark Gods of Chaos to prevent the death of reality itself.

Games Workshop Group PLC (often abbreviated as GW) is a British miniature wargaming manufacturing company. Games Workshop is best known as developer and publisher of the tabletop wargames Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game.
This Codex contains all the lore and rules for the daemon hunting Astartes of the Grey Knights for the tenth edition of Warhammer 40,000.
The background section of the book includes all the usual lore for the history, organization, weapons, units and heraldry for the 666th Chapter, and often rewritten and updated to fit with the current events in the game. Of the lore, the updated lore for the Chapter’s various companies as it gives a good indication of how they are dealing with their duties since the opening of the Great Rift. It is a little disappointing, however, that there are no pieces of short fiction, even in boxouts.
The artwork in the book is as good as always with some very nice pieces throughout (even if there doesn’t appear to be much new art). There are also some nice examples of Grey Knight heraldry to use as reference. The model photography is also as good as usual. As well as this, there is also a section showing converted Grey Knights characters with brief descriptions of how they were made. This is something I always like to see and hope it turns a regular feature future Codices.
Rules wise, the Grey Knights are also pretty standard. Their Combat Patrol force is mostly reasonable as they traditionally operate in small strike forces so there are always lore reasons to field it. The inclusion of Castellan Crowe in the force, however, is something I am not much of a fan of as I feel that named characters should be left out of such small-scale games, even if it is probably still lore appropriate.
The overall army rule for the Grey Knights, the Gate of Infinity, is quite good as it both reflects the faction’s rapid response fighting style and references a classic psychic power.
The main Crusade rules for the Grey Knights are quite interesting, revolving around the Crusade force attempting to stop the spread of Chaos and seal a warp rift. These rules are quite involved as the involve Chaos taint spreading, being banished, and finally becoming a full-blown Chaos Incursion that has to be purged. This is the sort of Crusade rule I like a lot as it tells its own story. The chart included to track the Chaos Incursion also looks nice and arcane. The rest of the crusade rules for the faction all seem quite standard.
