Mahabharat: The Story of Virtue and Dharma

Rate this book
The Mahabharat is one of the most renowned epic poems of all times. It contains 100,000 couplets, and is nearly eight times as long as Homer's Iliad and Odyssey put together. This colossal epic was composed by the renowned sage Ved Vyas, and it was none other than Lord Ganesh who assisted him in scripting this enormous text.

The Mahabharat is an extremely gripping narrative of internecine warfare in the Kuru family. It tells the story of deceit, treachery and how good may triumph over evil. This unique and never before written version of The Mahabharat presents the events in a different light and with great depth, revealing the true meaning of various events that dramatically unfold in front of our eyes.

A timeless classic and its message is highly relevant even in this day and age. Among other things, the Mahabharat teaches the importance of leading a righteous life, doing one's duty selflessly without worrying about the outcome.

The book was absolutely stunning. India's timeless epic, Mahabharat, has been narrated so well by the author that one can't help but connect with the characters and the story. The dilemmas each character faced, along with their positives and negatives have been portrayed quite well. Despite not being a literal translation, and being a short version of Mahabharat, skipping many of the sub-plots, it does justice to the original epic, by making the message clear; the value-imparting commentary in-between lines is just perfect. Said by one of the characters, or part of the narration itself, it blends in well with the story, and doesn't seem preachy at all. The illustrations inside the book, accompanying the story were beautiful to look at.
I feel quite calm after finishing this book today. A sense of truth and reality prevails, and the sense that despite the world being a struggle, there is an efficient and happy way to live life, i.e. Bhakti. Overall, an excellent read, and I would recommend reading this book to everyone I know on goodreads.

The one missing star is only for the writing of the book. Otherwise, I'm absolutely stunned by this epic. Mahabharat, I mean, what a show of bravery, love, worship, and dharma.
In the realest sense, this has made me a krishna fangurl (reinforced).

The book is truly praiseworthy! It portrays a holistic and engaging tale of the Bharat clan, highlighting the escalating conflict between two brothers and the unwavering strength of Dharma. It beautifully depicts how Dharma remains undefeated despite Adharma's attempts to weaken it.

Additionally, the portrayal of Lord Krishna as the ultimate savior for his devotees through his divine guidance and interventions add a spiritual depth to the narrative.
As Arjuna's charioteer and spiritual advisor, Krishna imparted profound wisdom and encouraged him to uphold righteousness in the Kurukshetra War. His teachings in the Bhagavad Gita inspired Arjuna to fulfill his Kshatriya duty without attachment to outcomes. His divine grace and interventions ensured that Dharma triumphed, and the Pandavas emerged victorious, upholding the righteous path throughout the epic saga.

I wrote this book for JKYog's children's classes, geared towards 7th and 8th graders. It's my first children's book so I was really excited to work on it. I delved deeper into my research of the ancient Sanskrit epic to provide as accurate and faithful a version of the Mahabharat as I could. I learned all kinds of unexpected details in the journey of writing this book, and was ecstactic to be able to share them here. Enjoy, and let me know what you think!
