They came to remind the world who ruled it. She made them bleed for it.
When leaders of the supernatural world gather in secret, sixteen-year-old Aria is dragged to the table. Not as an observer, but as a potential heir to a coven that still bleeds from old wars.
The supernatural factions are fractured, fearful, and furious. Humans are no longer running. They’re hunting. And some want to strike back.
Aria is told to listen and learn. Then, she makes a choice that defies centuries of blood and power. But defiance has a cost, and in a single, brutal night, Aria learns exactly what it means to stand alone between monsters and mortals.
Addicted to iced coffee, RPG video games, and buying more books than she’ll ever be able to read, L S Embers carves out a life in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it rural town in Quebec, Canada with her two dogs, a ghost cat, and her four teenaged children. In a world of constant mayhem, she finds solace in the fantastical worlds of her favorite video games (Skyrim, Mass Effect, Starfield), her favorite books (every fantasy/sci-fi book she can get her hands onto), and the ones she creates within her mind and upon her keyboard. You can find her… probably nowhere as she doesn’t tend to leave her house often except to run errands, taxi her children around, or read in nature.
This book needs follow up books immediately. I loved this short novella. I want to find out what happens as soon as I possibly can. This short book has rage, revenge, love, and I need to know what happens after the discord sowed by Marcus. The secret human hunters targeting all the supernaturals is intriguing and I love that this is being told by the perspective of the "bad guys". I think that if there is another novella done it should be told by the humans perspective. Is the motive revenge? Outrage over the injustice of being prey? Simple hatred? The author has started something that I think could be huge if she plays the rest of the series "correct".

I quite like the switching between perspectives, and I think it reflects the current political environment (at least where I am). It's very short, but I enjoyed it and would very much like to read other books with these supernatural species! The overall interactions between characters and species is really well-written, and I'd like it even more if there's more buildup on what causes the revenge VS peace debate. Overall, I really did enjoy reading this, it's definitely too short XD!
