Your Side of Midnight

Rate this book
Nix Desmarais has a few thorns in his side—and they all happen to be dead. The first came when he moved into his brother’s haunted house; another happened to be his best friend, who thinks it was Nix who murdered him. Pulled between them, he also has to deal with a young autistic son, a sister in law and two nieces, all of whom he has to protect from an entity hell bent on revenge.
Billy Holmes resides in the old Victorian home where the Desmarais family settles. He’s cranky, acerbic, overprotective and to top it all off, he’s been dead for two hundred years. Over the course of time, it grows to be more than just his home and personal space that he zealously guards.

After a tragedy drives Nix back home, and to his brother’s house, Nix and Billy are thrown together. Unwilling partners in a hurricane of supernatural events, they have to trust each other to stay on this mortal coil.

**This was a wonderful read, warm and sweet and real. Can't wait for more from these authors! This kept me sitting up until 1 am to finish it because I just couldn't put it down. It is a supernatural story of family and trust, learning to trust others, betrayal of trust, learning to set aside your own demons to protect others. The characters are all well fleshed out and true to life. Kudos on a story well told.**

**Wonderfully written paranormal story. The authors do a wonderful job bringing the reader into the story. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved it! Really looking forward to the next! **

**Wonderful and touching story. I love a good ghost story but this was amazing. Hard to put down, wanted to keep reading until I was done.**

***I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the Goodreads group LoP, or Lovers of Paranormal.***

I really loved this story. We're talking spent the majority of my day off in bed reading this from start to finish. I'm so glad there is a sequel in the works, because I want to know more about these characters. It's rare for me to love so many of the people in a story, and I really became invested in what was happening to them. There were some seriously stressful parts, and I cannot get over how evil one of the characters was. I was actually on the verge of crying reading about what he did to some of his victims. It's horrifying to realize there are really people like that out there. But, like in the story, there are many more good ones who will fight to protect the ones they love.

I received this book free in return for an honest review from LoP on Goodreads.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have to admit that it took me a while to come to grips with some of the aspects of this story that make it different from other ghost stories. Once I did, it all just clicked for me and I couldn't wait to see what was coming next. It was imaginative, fast paced, and left me wanting more.

The characters were interesting and complex. Well, the ghosts were more interesting than the people, I have to admit, but since the book is primarily from their perspective, that's actually ok.

The teenaged daughter does not behave as rebelliously as I would have thought, considering the concerns her parents have about her - concerns that actually prompted their move to a haunted house in the country to begin with. Then again, with her Uncle Nix and two ghosts keeping an eye on her, perhaps she's just smart enough to know that it wouldn't do her any good.

The book did leave me with one burning question, though -- when does the sequel come out?

I loved this book! I loved it so much that I read it one sitting! Your Side of Midnight is a well-written and fast-paced paranormal/fantasy story full of likeable characters (I love Gregg! . . . and Billy, too) with a thoroughly satisfying ending! I
I can't wait to hear Billy's story in book 2!
