A silversword cannot live without his weapon. And a king cannot rule without a throne.
After their disastrous trip to the Hollow Isles, Fig and Vaelor seek answers about fixing his broken sword that could get both of them killed.
A powerful dwarven relic has resurfaced, and the usurper king Rhivven has offered it as a prize in a tournament—drawing ire from the dwarves and interest from Dev, who thinks it might help him take back his throne.
Mairead vows to return home, but dark forces are in motion in Tytan, and the sisterhood that shunned her hasn’t forgotten about her.
An ancient cavern may hold all the answers… But if the truth gets out, it could threaten the very foundation of the continent.
*** Echoes of Silver is book two in Legends of Gold and Silver, an epic fantasy series full of hopeful determination featuring a ragtag cast of mages, dwarves, dragonets and dryads in a sprawling saga of twisty politics, magic, and myth.

What an excellent second book to this series! We pick up where book one ends with our friends splitting into two groups. Fig, Vaelor, and Mairead heading in one direction to heal Vaelor's heart bound sword and him. While Dev, Emrah, and Ziggy are in the opposite direction in search of allies and funds. The tension starts from the beginning and doesn't end as each group faces perils from the first step.
This book was full of surprises! The twists and surprise friends and enemies got me with each reveal. There were many moments were I couldn't put the book down if I had wanted too, the storytelling was just so well done. The relationships woven throughout this friend group really was something to behold. Standing the test of miles and more trials and bloodshed than they were prepared for, yet they still persevered. I also loved the growth in each individual throughout this story. I look forward to what happens next for Goldfire, the prince-king, and our friends.
This was such an absolutely action-packed story! So epic and full of adventure! I still love these characters, and I love seeing where their journey is taking them! I'm already dying for the next book! This is seriously one of my favorite epic fantasy series of all time!
With a leap of my heart and a jolt to my soul, Ms Delton jumps right in with the adrenaline pumping. Rhivven is a false king, Rhivven is a cruel king, Rhivven has usurped the throne through deeds most foul. He's ruthless and we get a glimpse of how much in the opening pages. Ms Delton grabs ones attention with her strong narrative, her strong vivid text, and, as in the first book of this series, this author makes it impossible to put down this read. Yes, the cast is large but it needs to be. Every individual is vital, every individual adding extra oomph to an already riveting read.
Vaelor's sword isn't the only thing broken, he is too. As a former Silversword, blade and wielder are one, one without the other is, lesser, lost, different. But not so lost that he cannot utter these words to Fig, “No matter what is taken from me, or how much is taken from me, know this: I want you, goldfire. And I won’t let anyone change that.” Fig and Vaelor's journey to find a solution to fix his sword, and thereby fix him, went as far off the rails as it could, hell, it completely derailed! One thing, then another, then another, then....yes, lots of thens, put a cog on an already perilous mission. Ms Delton made these "thens" so unexpected, so torturous as she entwined her plot like an intricate, almost impregnable hedge of briars, compelling one to see what's behind. And hells bells, what's behind the hedge is often jaw dropping!
Glory be! Just after the halfway mark, I was ready to put my "scare goggles" on! Ms Delton pulled all the strings together magnificently, all our heroes converge in the same place, with different motives and the stakes couldn't be higher or deadlier. Heart in throat scary! Done effectively, seamlessly, like a deck of cards shuffled and ready to be dealt. What was dealt next was OMG thrilling, exhilaratingly terrifying. The odds were so greatly stacked against them but they persevere, and, as Fig said, "The best we can do is try. Even if everything seems dark.” Dwarves enter the fray, Liess enters the fray, time is ticking like a time bomb and all hell breaks loose. The silverswords were bad enough but, red brothers? Shoot! And WHAT this innovative author did next, felt as though someone had thrust a sword right through my heart!
The battles were so intense, I could barely swallow. Interspersed with heartwarming moments, like this "thing" happening between Fig and Emrah was super cool, again, done splendidly by Liz. This newness takes on an entirely different path, an awesome one, where the visuals are masterful. The magic in all the characters evolve, gathering strength, the characters grow stronger, much as the story and plot does, literally step by step, the changes, in both, are immensely satisfying. These characters have a fullness to them, I understand them all and I'm vested in their outcome, all of them. Even Liess, who I, quite honestly, felt very sorry for. I loved that Dev really "grew up", I loved that Mairead showed how tough she is when backed against a wall. So many revelations hit from all sides and the biggest surprise, to me, was Knoll. He becomes an almost unwilling part of their tribe, and he sure as heck earned it! My word, this little band of complete misfits are the strongest, beautiful found family, they draw strength from each other, they give willingly to the other, no judgement, no recriminations, only acceptance and genuine caring.
Told from several POVs, my personal favourite, I get to see what each one sees, feel what they are feeling, go through what they're going through, be shocked together with them. This is as far from the run of the mill fantasy read as one can get, yes, there's magic, yes there's action, yes there's good guys and bad guys but the way Ms Delton presented it, wove it all together, well, that was magical!
After the Hollow Isles, each member of the group has different goals. Fig and Vaelor travel to Mar Nevan to try find a way to fix Vaelor's broken sword. Mairead, unable to go back to Mar Nevan, decides to travel home. Dev and Ziggy are back with the Fienn Da temporarily. When King Rhivven holds a tournament offering the dwarven sword as the prize, everyone makes their way towards the capital determined to stop the King. When they converge on the Gold Wood, no one is prepared for what is to come. New alliances are formed, old enemies keep popping up and a battle is inevitable. That is such a short summary, but if I were to give any more details I would risk spoiling things! It was so fun to be back in this world with all these wonderful characters. Fig and Vaelor are learning to navigate their feelings, awkward as that may be for both of them. Mairead learns that she is capable of more than she thought and is even given an extraordinary gift from an unlikely source. While all the characters are strong in their own way, I think Mairead is one of my favorites since she never imagined she would have to step up the way she has with her background as a healer. We get to meet the dwarf of little words, Knoll, who takes up residence in Emrah's tower. Even though he has a gruff nature, he is a lovable character. And speaking of Emrah, I absolutely love that little dragonet and was excited by what they found under the mountain in cavern! There is so much going on in this story, and it seems like all roads have led this group to the same place. The journey to the mountain was definitely not an easy one and there were several times you wondered if someone may not make it as well. More than one character learns they have to do things they never thought they would (and should have listened to others!). The addition of the red brothers add more mystery to this as well since the entire time you read about them you are not sure what their angle is and who they are really working for. This book was full of epic battles and edge of your seat as well. After the revelations of this book, I can't wait for the next one!
With a year between my reading of the first and this second novel in the Legends of Gold and Silver series, it took me a bit to slip back into the tale. Even without recalling the first book, I would have enjoyed this one.
All of the metrics I use to measure a good book are in place. Believable characters, terrific world-building, interesting and sometimes unexpected plotting, and pacing.
Bad guys can sometimes come off shallow, mostly because they exist for one purpose, and Rhivven seems to be one of these. (The bad guy waiting in the wings for book three made a brief appearance and seems a lot deeper than Rhivven.)
The real story will become the enmity between two brothers fighting for a throne that a usurper sits upon. To date, we’ve seen one brother try to wrest the tyrant off the throne, not knowing the other exists. Book three will be interesting when they all come together.
There’s always something happening and the shifting PoV chapters keep the action rolling.
If I had one comment to make to the author, it would be this: I would have liked to have seen more emotion behind the characters, rather than reasoning: more tender moments between characters. It’s one thing for us to know that Fig loves Vaelor, but there’s a lack of verbal dialogue that affirms it when the action slows. We have all these excellent characters together, but it’s hard to know why they are together. For me, a reminder of why Vaelor follows Dev so assiduously wouldn’t go amiss.
The world-building … the places that various factions hold reverent, or even holy … those are so well described. The golden forest seems like a place I’d want to visit. I might want to attempt ‘the twist,’ just to say I’d conquered it. Delton is a master of showing us the world, and story, in little actions, how setting a room to rights bespeaks peace. That’s not the only example, but I invite you to find your own.

Some middle books are fillers, but not this one. There’s plenty of action, plot resolution, and intriguing hints for continuation of the story in book 3. Fig is very fierce in this book, fighting for what she needs. Mairead makes the most interesting character development. Dev tries to take matters into his own hand. When they come together, along with the other characters in their group, magic happens. Read and enjoy.
I thought this book was better than the first one! I feel the writing was much improved. This was very action packed lked the first one. The story kept me on the edge of my seat. It still has a YA feel but the dialogue has grown since the first book. The romantic relationship I felt was very natural, didn't seem forced which I appreciated. It left me wanting to keep reading and I am looking forward to book 3.
I enjoyed this book so much! I adore Fig and Emrah. This was a much anticipated and very well written second book. I have loved these characters and am thrilled with how the story is going. The book is so beautiful and the author does a great job building this interesting world with some very touching moments and lots of action.
Totally epic. A real page turner as always. I love the friendships and characters in this series. There is fantastic suspense and plot twists that will have you shouting out loud while you read.
