He's an elite killer who prides himself on being cold, calm and calculating. If he’s to survive the week he’d better stay that way…

Spitfire Creosote is being sent to New York to take out a defecting Russian gangster. It’s a standard job and he’s glad of the work. Even when he’s told his organisation’s new recruit, Acid Vanilla is to accompany him on the job he doesn’t worry. She’s strong-willed and a loose cannon. But she’s been well-trained.

It’s not until the boss explains what else he wants Spitfire to do that the mission becomes more complicated than he’d ever imagined. With his volatile new colleague in tow, a shadowy figure blocking his every move and the mark growing more elusive by the hour he realises it’s also more deadly.

With time running out and the Russians and CIA further aggravating the situation it looks like Spitfire has been set up to fail. Can he get his mark whilst keeping Acid Vanilla from getting them both killed? Or will this be one mission he doesn’t walk away from?

Full of edge-of-your-seat action, unexpected twists, and razor-sharp dialogue, WHITE HEAT is the first book in the new Annihilation Pest Control series – a prequel series in the hugely popular Acid Vanilla universe.

I have read all the Acid books and was looking forward to reading how Acid actually started at Annihilation Pest Control. Acid and Spitfire together on her first mission.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading how she handled the first of her missions not following instructions and trying to do things her way.
A good read.

It's Acid and Spitfire's first job together and she is already driving him mad. She doesn't listen to a word he says, keeps going off to do her own thing and proves she's as good as him. Lovely to read about her early years and how she shaped up to be the assassin everyone feared.

This book was the chance to learn about a much younger Acid Vanilla.
She was definitely less able to control her "bats" and to work as part of a team.
She was also much harder on herself despite being still early into her training. But she did show that she has great potential.

I was surprised at how difficult it was for Spitfire to control her and to anticipate where she might go off on a tangent.

Overall, a good intro book to Acid and Annihilation Pest Control. I look forward to seeing how Acid improves in her skills and ability to work with her "bats" in future assignments. I have already enjoyed to later Acid stories that came before this. Now to close the gap.

Received a complimentary ARC and the review I leave is done so voluntarily.
Not Acid Vanilla's finest hour when, along with Spitfire Creosote is sent to New York to carry out a hit on a defecting Russian. Not quite the slick and dangerous assassin that we find in her later assignments, she lurches from one dangerous situation to another in her pursuit to prove she's the best. A good insight into her evolving character, look forward to the next adventure.

In my opinion, the weakest book in this series by far. Going by this book alone, I can’t imagine anyone hiring an assassin from Annihilation Pest Control. Between the trainee (Acid) and the pro (Spitfire) it was a real Mutt & Jeff performance from start to finish. Good thing Mr. Hattersley didn’t start the series with this book.

Having read all of the Acid books in the series so far, I was intrigued to see how the author would handle a prequel and what sort of person Acid would be in those early days. I thoroughly enjoyed the relentless pace of the story and it was fascinating to get a picture of the young and brash Acid which was entirely in keeping with how I had imagined her from the other books. A great read.

It's enjoyable learning about the beginning of Acid and Spitfire, although I would have liked to have read it before the other Acid Vanilla books. There is still plenty of action to keep a reader entertained.

Another great read

Plenty of great action, twists and turns, and humour. Some brilliant characters, especially Beowolf Ceaser. Can't wait for next book.....
