After the pivotal events of the previous book, this story explodes off the pages! The enemy has learned Katana’s true identity. And before the end, Katana will discover her hidden connection to her nemesis. Now he will stop at nothing to acquire her: can she escape the fate that awaits her?
Katana Yodan is the fourth book in a YA martial arts fantasy series. If you like coming of age stories in a modern setting, full of action and adventure, mystery and magic, then Katana will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more!
Katana’s still a total Mary Sue, but I guess I’m used to it
4 * only with a major caveat
The books only work if you can ignore the fact that the plot is predicated on a teenage prodigy (she’s now 16) who’s incredibly gifted at martial arts/teaching/inventing new moves/fighting battles, etc., etc. Oh, plus she’s got a photographic memory AND she’s brilliant, incredibly mature for her age, gorgeous and endlessly willing to risk her life to save other people, even enemies. Anyway, if you can’t let go of your disbelief in this miraculous being who can also perform miracles, don’t bother reading this series.
If you don’t need the main character to be an actual human being and if you are really interested in martial arts, this series is a fun but average fantasy. It’s an undemanding read with lots of action—as the heroine, her friends and teachers practice martial arts and battle the evil overlord guy.
This book is decidedly darker and more substantial than the three that precede it, as the characters experience lots of tragedy and emotional suffering, and Katana finally gets answers to some of her most pressing questions.
All I can say is wow it's so freaking amazing. I was able to predict a few key things toward the end. But not till the last 5 chapters or so. I have the last book in the series and can't wait to dive into it.
After over 900 pages (465 in this book) the story will continue in a fifth book, that's a good thing! This book, the series, is INCREDIBLE! Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings are the only series that comes to mind as series to even approach this series. I look forward to book 5.
