I have loved the plot lines & characters in all of the books in the Adam Drake series. From the storyline perspective they are all 5-stars. Where the author has lost me over the last 4 books has been in the lack of proof reading for grammatical errors, missing words, lack of continuity in descriptions of an item or person from one book or even chapter, to another. In this particular book near the end one character’s name is used in place of another which could make a huge difference in the outcome of the scenario. It’s distracting. This book seems shorter than the others, there were questions between characters left hanging, i.e. Drake’s offer to Paul Benning to develop & run the Hood Ranch training center. Parts of the story line & dialogue seemed choppy, I’m not even sure Scott Matthew’s even wrote some parts…AI maybe? Is the author tired of his character? Tired of writing maybe but not willing to give up a cash cow? Maybe he needs to take a break for a while & not try to crank out the books so fast he ignores a lot of what made them so good in the first place. I hope things can improve & get back to the standards of his earlier books.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story begins with Adam in Las Vegas after getting a request from POTUS to watch over a staffer whose father believes that there is something wrong. This staffer is to present a paper regarding spying on Americans. Adam soon becomes aware of a plot to discredit this individual. There are several attempts that are made that Adam needs to deflect.
After his time in Vegas, Adam is asked again to look into the method intelligence data is being collected a provide POTUS a report. While Adam is doing this, the person that wanted the staffer discredited is now attempting to gather info on Adam. As a result, Adam and his family are targeted so Adam now brings in protection from company.
To learn what reason the intelligence community was worried about, what info was requested on Adam and how far the other party was willing to go, then you need to read this book.
This was another intriguing story, and a great addition to the series. From my understanding of the comments at the end of this book, there will be another book in the future. I just really hope that it won't be a year before it's released, as it seems that the previous books were. There was a comment that was made regarding this book that kind of confused me. It stated that one thing happened in this story, but that was not something that I read in the book. Either there was a chapter missing or that's where the next book will begin, but either way, it's not something that I read in this book. Like I said..... confusing. Overall, it was a terrific story, and I'm looking forward to reading the next release. (Hopefully soon!!!) I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
Another great story from Scott Matthews! Plenty of twists and turns! It is great to have smart friends to help out when it is needed. This time, even Adam calls on friends to help him out. It is nice to get the gang together again! Too many corrupt officials hiding behind their power, position and money. Adam will hunt them down! Recommended reading!
I liked the characters and storylines, but found the Proof Reading lacking which made it distracting for me. I suspect AI was used and it came across as knocking the books out at all costs for volume over quality!
Each of the Adam Drake books keeps you holding your breath as the story unfolds. If you live in the Northwest, each element is in your backyard. Can't wait for the next episode. Thank you for the adventures.
Simple! The editor needs a good English grammar tutorial!! Disconcerting to have missing quote, marks, paragraphs hanging, adverbs duplicated, just poor editing!!
