Review for „The Sunflower Meadow” by K. M. Jenkins
It’s the first story from the “Tales of Tarza” series and a Flower Shop novella written by international bestselling author, K. M. Jenkins. The story focuses on Prince Joseph’s attempts to win the heart of the women of his dreams.
Mrs. Jenkins attracts her readers with her simple writing style that not only it’s easy to understand, but it reminds them of the classic fairy tales and legends adored by everyone. It also has a few similarities to Stephanie Ayers’, Richard H. Stephens’ and Allison D. Reid’s novels, Hanna Barbera’s “The Adventures of Young Robin Hood” and classic love stories.
Daring to take risks by expressing our feelings and being ourselves in front of our crush; not being ashamed to ask for help in certain situations; blood is thicker than water sometimes; a reckless act can cost us our life; forgiveness; nothing is what it seems and love conquers all are some of the important lessons that we will learn throughout the story.
Serious issues like the overprotective mother (e.g. Queen Sarah (to some extent)), the absent father (e.g. King Tyler (to some extent)), heartbreak, thirst for power and the abusive father like in Lord Marcus’ case are tackled too.
An important theme discussed in the novella is the difference between genuine love and false love. Valerie whose appearance resembles a rose loves the prince for who he is from the bottom of her heart while Lady Brittany loves him for his good looks, riches and high status. Due to the respect he has for the girl he loves, Joseph doesn’t succumb to temptations and resists the charms of his other admirers. Another theme is the battle between light and dark in which each side is represented by a magic wielder.
The sunflower plays a very important role in the world created by Mrs. Jenkins because not only that it brings Valerie and Joseph together, but it’s used as an ingredient to the potion that will release the prince from the realm of darkness. It’s the symbol of adoration, faith, devotion, loyalty, positivity, hope and spiritual enlightenment.
Grant and Smith represent unswerving loyalty because they were on the royal family’s side even when Brittany controlled the castle and grounds for a brief time. Beth represents the Fairy Godmother, the guardian angel and guide while Gertrude is the opposite since she is corrupted by the dark arts. Queen Sarah is the loving mother that can be doting at times. She keeps the family together. Lady Annette loves her niece dearly. She and the queen represent the wise caring woman.
Like in most literary works, there are a few things with symbolic meanings: the water – life, purification, hope; the garden – a place of peace like in the scene when Valerie takes refuge into the garden when the prince’s doppelganger broke her heart; the meadow – the beauty of nature, peace, serenity, freedom; the wildflowers – growth, renewal, new beginnings; tulips – happiness, joy, perfect deep love; roses – young love, romance, desire, innocence, purity, gratitude, enthusiasm; the sunrise – birth, resurrection; the sunset – completion, cycle, mystery; the clouds – celestial realm, conscience, emotions, secrets and the ruby – health, wealth, wisdom and success in love.
The writer leaves the readers to imagine the past about certain characters in an attempt to make them use their imagination. A sophisticated reader will notice there are a few similarities between Valerie and Princess Sissi namely that both girls prefer a simple life at the countryside, are always associated with nature, are kind-hearted, perseverant and intelligent and their beauty make the prince fall madly in love with them at first sight.

Este prima poveste din seria “Povestiri din Regatul Tarza” și face parte și din seria “Florăria” scrisă de către autoarea de renume mondial de bestseller, K. M. Jenkins. Povestea se axează pe încercările Prințului Iosif de a câștiga inima femeii visurilor lui.
Doamna Jenkins își atrage cititorii prin stilul simplu ușor de înțeles care le amintește cititorilor totodată și de basmele și legendele clasice adorate de toată lumea. Există de asemenea câteva asemănări cu operele lui Stephanie Ayers, Richard H. Stephens și Allison D. Reid, seria de animație “Aventurile Tânărului Robin Hood” de Hanna Barbera și poveștile de iubire clasice.
Să îndrăznim să riscăm exprimându-ne sentimentele și fiind noi înșine în fața persoanei iubite; să nu ne fie rușine să cerem ajutor în anumite situații; uneori familia este mai importantă decât realțiile cu ceilalți; o faptă nesăbuită ne poate costa viața; iertarea; nimic nu este ceea ce pare și iubirea ne ajută să trecem peste obtacole și încercări sunt câteva dintre lecțiile importante pe care le vom învăța de-a lungul poveștii.
Probleme serioase ca: mama supraprotectoare (ex. Regina Sarah (până la un anumit punct)), tatăl absent (ex. Regele Tyler (până la un anumit punct)), durerea sufletească, setea de putere și tatăl abuziv așa cum este Lordul Marcus sunt abordate.
O temă importantă discutată în poveste este diferența dintre iubirea adevărată și sinceră și cea falsă. Valerie a cărei înfățișare este asemeni unui trandafir îl iubește pe prinț pentru ceea ce este din adâncul inimii în timp ce Brittany îl iubește pentru frumusețea exterioară, bogății și rangul înalt. The location comes alive. You can picture Prince Joseph minding his own business, the scent of the fresh green grass and flowers in the air, and boom, life is changed.
Being a fairytale you need certain elements, but don't worry they are all here. A LOT happens in 100 pages, try to read it in one sitting, like a great movie. This would be a great animated film, by the way. One more thing, I love how it isn't all about her, the princess-the will/would be Queen. It is told on equal footing from all views.

The Sunflower Meadow was a turn pager, and I couldn't put it down. I loved how likable the characters were. The maiden plays hard to get, good and evil characters, and a beautiful sunflower mwadow. I couldn't put the book down and read it in one sitting.

Very good!
This is a very good fairytale. It has all the requisite characters prince, lovely maiden, good and bad witches and of course magic and to top it all off it is very well written.
