Two people walk into his office and change everything.
Greg Lampeter hung out a shingle after years at a large law firm and is beginning to have some success. When a new client walks through his door, he’s intrigued by the case and the cause it represents and agrees to take it on principal. What he doesn’t expect is the man with him to capture his attention so completely.
Assistant swimming coach Mark Baker only came to the appointment as moral support for his friend, Steven. He doesn’t expect the lawyer to be so understanding and supportive, and he certainly doesn’t expect the spark of attraction that pulls at him almost from the moment they shake hands.
Both men are determined to remain professional for Steven’s sake, for the help he needs in dealing with the college and a serious issue with one of the assistant Lacrosse coaches. As facts come to light, it’s clear that Greg is going to have to walk a close line to ensure that Steven gets the justice he deserves, and to protect Mark and their budding relationship from becoming collateral damage.
A very unsavory topic but it gives us an intense and satisfying read. A young man in college and on the volleyball team is being abused by his coach. As the truth is unfolded things get so much worse. Very well written for such a topic but a little growing romance softens the bad bits. A good read.
Greg Lampeter, a solo practice lawyer starting to find his footing after leaving a large firm, agrees to take on an intriguing case on principle for a new client named Steven. However, Greg's attention is entirely derailed by Steven's moral-support companion, assistant swimming coach Mark Baker, with whom he shares an immediate, powerful attraction. While trying to maintain professional boundaries for Steven's sake as they tackle a serious college dispute involving a lacrosse coach, Greg must navigate a delicate legal line to secure justice for Steven while safeguarding Mark and their growing relationship from becoming collateral damage.
This was such a wonderful, heartfelt short story. I loved how sensitively it handled a very serious, emotional topic without ever letting it become needlessly sensationalized. One of my favourite aspects was how Greg immediately took Steven seriously, crafting a thoughtful strategy focused entirely on removing the offending coach to protect others rather than chasing monetary compensation. It gave the story a lot of integrity and heart. Despite being a shorter read, the emotional depth was great —the feelings and struggles throughout were clear, raw, and very easy to connect with. I also deeply appreciated how Greg and Mark managed to intentionally carve out space to isolate their budding relationship from the heavy college legal battle, protecting what they were building. A touching, well-balanced, and rewarding read. This was an MM story with mature content.
At only 105 pages, this is a quick read, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good read! Mr. Grey does not disappoint with his romances. The characters are realistic, the settings well-done, and the heat and connection between the two men is electric.
In this story, Greg is a lawyer who takes on a case for an athlete about an abusive coach. The topic is one that’s been getting a lot of interest in the last few years. In addition to the case, Greg is also intrigued by the man who is helping the college athlete – Mark. The two form a fast friendship that deepens as the story develops. By the end, we know there’s going to be a HEA for these two men (and a winning case for Greg). A satisfying ending all around.
Greg meets Mark when he comes in for support of a student and friend of his at the local college. Steven is on the lacrosse team and after something happens he seeks out help from Greg because he can't let it go. Trigger Warnings for abuse and inappropriate behavior from someone in power. This packed a punch and Greg was fierce that's for sure. He wasn't letting no one get away.
Mark and Greg also start a relationship which even though this was short it had plenty of happiness as well. Loved their day out just walking through town. Their time together with Mark who's swim coach teaching Greg was fun.
It's also a shame that this happens in every type of businesses, everywhere, and over a lengthy time period involved in a lot of cases. The intense weight of the personal mental and sometimes physical injury that the victims carry with them for a long time or their whole life. Too bad most don't have the lawyer backing, co-workers, friends, family, and the business where it happened having their back. This storyline brought back the hope that justice can be done as a whole when others are willing to step up to get involved to get justice done! THANK YOU, ANDREW! KEEP WRITING!
I really enjoyed this novella. A college swim coach, Mark, shows up at lawyer Greg's office with a student in tow. The young man shares that his lacrosse coach has molested him while seemingly providing treatment for an injured ankle. Most of this story tracks to slowly growing relationship between Mark and Greg, as well as the legal case against the coach and school. While the subject matter of the coach is quite serious, the love story is tender. While I'm not a fan of fade-to-black, I appreciated the passion between the two men. This story makes for a very satisfying evening's read.
This is a sweet, short read. Greg is a small town attorney in Carlisle. He meets Marc when he comes in with a potential client. They hit it off immediately. I love more mature characters like this. I liked how the hit it off and developed a friendship over a young man facing a bad situation. It is a touchy topic but very well done with beautiful scenery, a sweet, budding romance with fade to black heat, ( I happen to like this) and some witt and charm to lighten the topic. Another beautiful read.
Social correctness can be a difficult subject to portray but I think Mr. Grey has handled it admirably in this story about sexual abuse in athletics. While this is fiction, the theme parallels past reality and the characters demonstrate the difficulty in presenting just the facts, and keeping the emotions in check. Overall, the story fits in well with the Carlisle series.
I love this author and his books!!! He makes the characters come to life you feel like you are actually watching them in your minds eyelll all the legal maneuvers kept you reading and cheering on the boys!!!! Thank youbi loved this book - Lori
As always, Andrew Grey has penned another great read, College sports dealling with a predator coach. It ends up as an HEA book with a whole lot of students getting involved in caging the beast.
