Susan is hella racist, and reading her parts was very uncomfortable. I think this book was trying to illustrate the humanness of lots of different types of people. The parts from Terry's point of view, I think, did a decent job of showing how colorblind or well-intentioned racism is still racism and still hurts, but obviously as a white person I can't really make that call. I don't know the race of the author, but the book came off kind of like The Help in that it felt like a white lady speaking for people of color. I did end up caring/worrying about the characters though, so good job with that.
