"Boys Don't Dance!" is a truly wonderful book that tackles a very important subject with so much heart and rhythm. As a teacher, parent, and lover of dance, I was immediately drawn to Alex's story. The playful, rhyming format makes it a perfect read-aloud, and my kids were captivated by the fun, energetic tone.

What I love most about this book is its powerful message. It goes beyond just a story about dance; it's a celebration of self-expression, confidence, and standing up to bullies. The way the story addresses gender stereotypes and promotes the idea that "being different is something to celebrate" is handled beautifully. It’s an essential book for social-emotional learning, and it provides a great springboard for conversations about kindness, acceptance, and being true to yourself.

The inclusion of a single-mom family and its LGBTQ+ inclusive themes make it a great addition to any library that values diversity and representation. The fact that it was written by a public school teacher and dance instructor is evident in the genuine way it captures classroom dynamics and the pure joy of movement.

"Boys Don't Dance!" is a must-have for dance teachers, elementary school educators, and anyone raising confident, kind kids. It's a joyful, heartwarming reminder that everyone deserves to shine, no matter what they love to do.

The story’s rhymes make it easy to read out loud, which is perfect for bedtime. The cheerful flow helps kids relax while still learning something valuable. Alex’s love for dance is contagious, and the positive message about being yourself comes through clearly. It’s short enough to keep kids’ attention but full of life. The light humor balances out the theme of teasing, and the ending feels encouraging. A lovely story that parents and kids can enjoy together.

Fun story about being yourself.

As a theater and show choir geek, I was excited to receive a recommendation this book (even if I'm just a tad above the recommended age range). It's a fun story about being yourself even when other people say you should be different.
