Discover Nursing, Raw and Uncut, the untold story that will leave you wanting more. Have you ever wondered what nurses do behind closed curtains? Nursing has evolved from the abstract image of its predecessors wearing the perfect cap atop a perfectly shaped bun. This unveiling will give you a glimpse into their world. From their perspective. It doesn’t always match the vision of Florence Nightingale sitting and praying over the patient for a speedy recovery. What you will discover in this true account may shock some, and enlighten many—whether it’s about the nurses who have to protect themselves from that angry patient throwing unmentionables at them, or the ones being threatened by the use of excrements as a weapon. Health care is changing at a rapid speed that only CEO’s can keep up with. Bedside nursing has gone beyond the bounds of possibility. The many tasks and activities—along with increased acuity’s—creates an insurmountable work load. Nurses are a unique group, not divided by race, age, or religion. We are united by our humanity, and it takes a special disposition to fulfill this calling.
This was good, lots of paragraphs that I was like ‘YES! So relateable’ However, It did feel like they were pointing out all the bad things about nursing - I think there are a lot of positives too.
The last chapter is a lot of thank yous to all the specialties of Nursing, which would be appreciative to those nurses who will read this book.
I really enjoyed this book. Never have I read a more entirely true description of nursing,. I have been a nurse since 1960 (retired now)I would recommend this book to anyone in the health field, especially nurses
This book should be a read for everybody. Like in every profession, there will be one or two bad nurses who really don't know how to do their jobs properly. But the majority of them are very nice and lovely people and don't deserve to be run off their feet because of people who would rather complain and be demanding instead of being thankful that they are being taken care of when they're not well. also from personal life experience, if you do rub wrong with a nurse because of something genuinely not working out between you, don't turn it into a huge argument. Say thanks and ask for a nursing supervisor and explain the situation so it doesn't become a huge scene when it's not meant to be. most of the time that nurse may not be understanding what the person is asking of them for whatever reason, and creating an argument never helps. I think this book is good for people learning to become a nurse as well. They learn what to expect before they go into the role. If nurses are reading this book, they can review what they already know and feel comfort that they are doing everything correctly even if they think the world is against them at times.
This was a good read. I gave it 4 stars, just because there are many nurses that do the same job as the RN. They are called LPN's and I am one of them. I have been a nurse for 40 years and can do everything an RN can do. So to me, a nurse is a nurse is a nurse no matter what initials might follow her name.
I thought this book would be about stories the nurses have lived through in their profession. No, they basically criticize new nurses on all the mistakes they make and the patients for being too difficult, needy, and annoying them. It just wasn't a feel good book. I feel depressed after reading this.
This was more of an angry vent session scrawled onto a yellow notepad at 3 in the morning than an actual book. Instead of thoughtful insight or humorous anecdotes, the reader is treated to a hostility-laced tirade. That the author is beyond burned out is glaringly obvious.
I enjoy books written from a nurse’s view however this is not one. This was a glorified rant from a manager’s perspective which is the nurse is always wrong. I won’t order anymore written by this nurse
Incredible depiction of what we as nurses go through on a daily basis. As sad as it may sound, nurses really are treated like they are the enemy. Although there are many patients that remind us as to why we keep returning to work. More often there's that particular patient you cannot do anything right for. Even though you may have saved their life, its really about how fast you can answer the call bell. It's a tough profession that we love to complain about, yet it's also very rewarding.
I am a retired RN and have read a good number of books written by nurses. Most I enjoyed and w ould again. But not this bok. If I read this before I went into nursing, I doubt that I ever would have chosen nursing as a career. I really enjoyed my long almost 50 year of nursing. I never felt as negative as the authors seemed to me. I do not recommend this book.
I quit reading after all the accolades she keep giving herself. I have seen really good nurses and extremely bad nurses. I respect the ones who are caring and compassionate. I detest the ones who do not care if you live or die.
