Darren Williams has never wanted a mate. He doesn’t have time for one. Especially with a serial killer running around Portland Pack lands dropping body after body. But all that changes when an outsider—a human—wanders into pack territory. All he wants is to make sure he doesn’t scare her and that he gets her to the pack’s clinic as soon as possible. With so much happening at one time, how is he going to tell her she’s his mate, that shifters really exist, and the genetic marker in her blood may be the answer to a virus running rampant through the wolf packs of the Pacific Northwest. A virus that turns wolf shifters into wolf-vampire hybrids. No, he couldn’t possibly do all that and catch the one responsible for all the chaos.
Keonna Johnson just called off her engagement. And you know what? She wasn’t even sad about it. However, taking the scenic route home ended with a broken-down rental, no cell service, a broken wrist, and a trip to the clinic. A recurring dream from when she was a little girl has come back to hit her full force and if they take one more tube of blood from her, she’s going to crash out. The positive? The handsome man with smooth dark skin and a velvety voice who has decided to tell her everything she needs to know about his people. But there are things she doesn’t know about her family that could unlock the key to this virus he keeps talking about. But her family is tight-lipped, and the Portland Pack may be running out of time. Can Darren convince Keonna they are meant to be together when danger has his eye on her? The virus doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon, and neither is the killer on the loose.

I had been seeing this book for quite a while. I'm glad I crossed paths with it again. Well worth the read. Great story with a great plot setting. Enjoyed reading this novel. Great work Tamika Brown
I really couldn’t make it through the whole story I got to 66% and gave up. It’s not a bad story it’s missing something and I can’t really put my finger on what it is. It’s a bit boring and it’s taking the whole book just to figure out what is going on with Keonna. I think I was really getting tired of hearing how much he loved her and couldn’t stay away from her to long too, like I love paranormal stories but this was just over the top with the mating thing. Not a bad story just not enough for me to want to finish or care about what happens.
After dumping her boyfriend and he leaving him on a cruise ship, Keonna’s car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. While looking for cell service she comes across wolves, one being her mate Darren. He takes her to their land after she has an injury and slowly builds their relationship while revealing to her that shifters are deal and she is his mate. While in the background their is a serial killer in the loose coming for the Darren’s pack.
I’m torn between a 3.5 and 4. I liked a lot about this book, there was action and some suspense, and very cute romance, and likable characters. But for some reason I didn’t love it.
I thought both the H and h were really cute, and down to Earth people. She didn’t freak out when she learned about shifters and he didn’t drag out the secret about being mates and claiming like so many H’s do in books in this genre. So I really enjoyed that. Sometimes I wanted the H to be a little more Alpha, he seemed kind of whiney at times.
While there were grammatical errors, I was still able to enjoy the book. Couple of things that did annoy me, is the lack of description of how characters looked. I have a vague sense of how the H and h looked but the supporting cast not at all.
Also I would’ve preferred the epilogue to be a check in with Darren and Keonna a few years down the line instead of the triad. Especially since the second book doesn’t even seem to be about them.
I say all that to say even though this book has flaws I still enjoyed the story and recommend checking it out. I liked it enough to look into other works by this author.
I really wanted to love this book. Truth be told the best part of this book was the last 20-25% of the book. From the claiming to the end. There was just to many holes in the story. Keonna finally came face to face with the wolf in her dream.... Jackson finally found what he started the whole war for( being Keonna) There wasn't any dialogue between them just a swipe of the ankle. So disappointing!!! This story has a lot of potential just delivered wrong. Darren and Keonna were to "green" for me. I expected more animal from Darren bc he was born a wolf. I felt he was more human than wolf. As far as the other characters... I'm just going to leave it alone. I wanted to learn more about Keonna's family from her grandmother or mother. That could of been in the book instead of repeating the findings about Keonna to each new character that was being introduced. Everything isn't for everyone so read at your own risk.
The story was just okay to me. Fell flat for me. It was like a surface story. It’s more about solving a virus case versus a paranormal love story. A little bit of mystery. Keonna is finding out more about herself after a breakup. A lot of secrets revealed. Darren has found his mate but she knows nothing of his lifestyle. Didn’t feel the chemistry at all. In all of what’s going on, there’s a serial killer on the loose.
Too many mysteries not resolved.
Sex is just casual between everybody seems like. Jackson is a nut case. Would’ve preferred if they called Jarell and Shawn one name instead of going back and forth between their first names and their last names. L
Following a breakup, Keonna finds herself lost in the woods when a mysterious man saves her after an injury. Darren is surprised to find his One True Mate, but even more so when he finds that she’s the key to a problem that has plagued his pack and others for years. Will Darren and Keonna get their happily ever after, or will they have to fight to stay together?
I wasn’t too much a fan of this one, although I appreciate that the authors decided to create a world of shifters, instead of just wolves. I am actually intrigued about one more of her books, but this wasn’t one that would have me interested in her.
If you like black romance, shifters, and family secrets, this is for you.
This was a very good read. I can't believe Keonna has a dormant wolf gene and is the key to the hybrid virus. That came so out.of left field. Then Melissa was so hell bent on being with Darren even though she knows she isn't his fated mate let her jealousy get her killed and had her turn on her own pack. I'm so glad that they finally got the hybrid killer and hos followers because i was tried of him.draining humans. I was sad when he killed Bruce he didn't deserve that. This book was good from beginning to end. I can't wait to see what happens next
Loved the simple complexity of the storyline! Every character had a significant part to make the story cohesive. I loved the uniqueness of the story as well! I don't wanna give away anything, its a must read cause this author changed up the whole dialog of the shifter community! Loved it!! The connection between Darren and his father as Alpha, Darren and Raymond, Darren and Abigal, and Darren and Keonna is emotionally felt. I loved how each relationship was solid and had its own dynamic! Can't wait for what's next! Great job Tamika....finally got my fix!!!
From the start of this book it was full of action. From a cheating boyfriend to the love of her life. It keeps you on your toes because it's just action all the way. It has everything a book should have when it comes to shifters. A lot of action, drama, and tears. If you want a great read go out and buy it to see for yourself.
This was a great first read by this author, I love how she tells the story of wolves and humans and the hybrid species. I love the fact that she open to door for more species. There were a few spelling errors and names place where they shouldn’t have been. But other than that a good first read
Darren was such a great guy. I wished he thought better or his abilities. Also so wish he would have found out some info from his dad. However he did find his One. Jackson was crazy and I wish it was more on his background. Can’t wait to see what happens with Triad
Who knows what hides in your dna. Keonna thought she was in a doomed relationship when she found out her man was cheating on her. She was done. Fleeing the scene, she gets off track and has a big encounter. From there her life is changed forever.
Would love to read what happened to the triad next!
I've recently became a fan of paranormal reads, especially wolf shifters so I enjoyed this story. I love erotica so it could have had a few more steamy scenes but that won't stop me from giving it 5 stars because it was good. I'm glad to have discovered this author.
I really wanted dot like this book because I love the genre. However there were just too many simple editing errors. Mixing up of names. I’d love to give this book another try once it has been re-edited. I hope that the author sees this review and re-reads it herself to see the issues that I’m referring to.
I enjoyed reading this book. Darren is a good man. I love the way he treats his woman. It’s sad how some things went towards the end but it’s also a cute moment that helped cure the sadness. I believe this is my first book by this author and I’ll definitely be reading more of her books.
This was an awesome read. Can’t believe that Keonna holds to power for the cure in her blood. Looking forward to seeing what happens with Yasmin, Jarell and Shawn. Hoping that love prevails and there isn’t a war started so that they can be w/ their mate.
I really liked this story and can't wait to read Shawn and Jarell's story. There were several mistakes, which is why I have it four stars. I will definitely read more from this author.
Great storyline. Character development was perfect. Enough mystery to keep you going. I thought it moved a bit slow in the beginning, but was at the edge of my seat by the end.💞
This book was lacking for me. It's a slow, slow burn with a lot of repetition. The Hybrid Wars was underwhelming and lack the excitement I look for when reading shifter stories.
Great storyline, believable characters, and just enough spice that’s not overwhelming! It doesn’t necessarily leave on a cliffhanger however, the next book I have to find out what happened in the past.
When I say this book eats I mean just that. Darren and Keonna omg. I love a great shifter book and this book gave me all the feels. Loved Springlake Pines by Tamika and loved Portland pack even more. Can’t wait for the next book.
