A Halloween The Complete Collection brings you installments one and two with a brand-new third, serving up nine “delightfully gruesome” intertwining tales that are sure to curdle your blood this All Hallow’s Eve.
In part one, a beloved elderly couple’s Halloween takes a violent and deadly turn, a young man goes to a party where the scary costumes are a little too real for comfort, and a police officer responds to chaos and bloodshed as monsters, demons, and masked killers come alive.
In part two, a big-city investor realizes she got more than she bargained for with the abandoned oddities store she purchased, a devoted husband cares for a wife whose strange illness has caused some rather grotesque cravings, and three peculiar boys in vintage costumes have a few devious and spooky tricks up their sleeves.
In part three, a stalker discovers his prey has some disturbing secrets, an aspiring writer tells his scariest story to date to a group of friends at the cemetery, and a carnival has some terrifying surprises in store for a young couple and their unsuspecting friends.
This Halloween, get ready for some horrifying fun, and be careful who you open your door for. Some trick-or-treaters may be after more than candy.
Matt Micheli is a horror and dark-fiction writer out of New Braunfels, TX, author of The White, Two Minutes with the Devil, and Pornageddon. He has several fiction and non-fiction pieces featured in various magazines and anthologies and is a multi-contributor to This is Horror, Horror Sleaze Trash, and Horror Tree. A loving husband and father to a daughter and Husky dogs, he spends his days dabbling in domestication and his nights in Tequila, always searching for the next great story.
That was spooky, subversive, chilling, and FUN! It takes the familiar tropes of small town cozy fiction, and turns them upside down, ending up with dark, grotesque and creepy Halloween horror stories of nightmarish supernatural mayhem. Micheli's writing flows easily, even when describing the most horrible kind of endings for the poor souls of his "Halloween Story" collection!
The book has three parts, the first two have already been published, the third, however, being totally new! Each part has three short stories, all nine intertwined (characters of one story making cameo appearances in another, as the same night is described from different perspectives), revolving around Halloween night in an American small town. The first part covers the night's disastrous happenings from three different viewpoints: an old couple of residents who enjoy Halloween by welcoming the kids with home-made cookies and mountains of candy; a group of young friends who find themselves right in the middle of the debacle; and an overworked officer who needs to protect his family from the sudden violence erupting all over town this nerve-racking night! The second part focuses on the town residents themselves, first through the eyes of an investor from the city taken by the town handyman to see the place she bought; second, through the eyes of the handyman himself, who has some monstrous marriage problems; and finally, through the eyes of three boys, who have every reason to be out wandering on Halloween night, though it's not at all for the reasons one would think. The third part introduces a strange, grumpy guy who has something special arranged for himself on Halloween night; a group of friends who go to the local cemetery in order to enjoy a night of drinks listening to a friend's new story; and another group of friends taking advantage of their free invites to the carnival, where they will have the opportunity to visit ...the House of Wonders.
Subtly peppered with Easter Eggs, crammed with gore and creepiness, this bloodfest delivers exactly what it promises: riveting Halloween horror to make your blood run cold. Highly recommended!
This is the perfect read for spooky season! Each page drips with horror and nostalgia and makes me even more excited for Halloween. I've always enjoyed Halloween and even more so as an adult because I can appreciate it even more today. Those who love Horror need to add this one to their TBR.
A fantastic collection of intertwined stories that ooze with Halloween spirit, these stories will chill, spook and terrify you and keep you glued to its pages.
This collection gathers together three parts, each one containing three stories to make a whole. The first two parts have already been published but the third one is new. The stories are interconnected in that they all happen on the same Halloween night and events/people from each are mentioned in passing before they have their own story telling the events from their point of view. This could have led to samey stories but each one is totally different. The stories cover perspectives from the young and old from an older Halloween couple who love handing out copious amounts of candy only to experience the start of the horror's in store that night first hand to mischievous pranksters who take things a little too far, to a handyman with a monstrous marriage to a group of teenagers partaking in a retelling of a spooky story in a cemetery where things become a little too real to name just a few.
Matt's writing is highly addicting and flows easily making this collection a pleasure to read. This one is perfect for spooky season or for those who can't wait for it and want to experience a little of the magic of the season before it arrives. An easy recommendation.
Halloween is a special time to don masks and have fun. What if those masks changed people? A building is housing more than the new owner excepts. A trio of trick or theaters have a mission to fulfill. Delightfully gruesome tales of Halloween horrors.
I'm not a big fan of short story collections. They're impossibly difficult for me to review. But I like ones like this where everything connects in some small way to paint a large collage of a single night told from many angles.
This collection is definitely interesting though the stories seem to take their events and villains from horror movies that were popular in the 90's. Not literally, but the similarities are there in plain sight. I don't even need to name the movies, you'll know soon as you read the stories where their inspirations came from.
And that's the only reason I can't give this 5 Paws. There's not much originality. It's still worth reading for the nostalgia and the interesting twists that come along the way though.
A Halloween Story: The Complete Collection by Matt Michelin is the perfect read to get into the Halloween spirit. Each short story captures the eerie, unsettling energy of the season, from a murderous night of trick-or-treating to a terrifying carnival filled with horrors. My favorite story was Trick or Treat—the way it shifts between multiple POVs adding more detail with each new perspective. If you’re looking for a spooky, fun, and creepy collection to enjoy this October, this is a great pick.
I absolutely loved this concept and writing style. It's dark, creepy and doesn't let you go. I liked the fact the all the stories intertwine so that made this collection of stories that much more fun.
So good! Very enjoyable, perfect stories to tell on Halloween or around a campfire. Gives 'are you afraid of the dark, 'tales of the crypt', 'goosebumps' and 'creeps show' vibes.
I love the gore in these stories. Definitely will read more books by this author. I would love to know what happened with the store that sold the Halloween masks
I found this book while taking part in the October indie-tron event. I snagged up my copy in KU and got to reading.
At first glace this seemed like just another collection of spooky stories to sit around the campfire and spook your friends. What it actually is, is so much more!
This is a well crafted book with a string of stories that build off of the last. It has enough blood and gore to satiate the horror junkie while keeping you hooked with a story of a Halloween night you will be sure to remember!
