Blood Moon by Uncomfortably Dark presents Coffee Shop by Aaron Lebold

Sit with me at the coffee shop as I type some current thoughts and feelings into my vintage typewriter while sipping my triple foam mocha latte with gummy bears or whatever.

The majority of this book has been taken from journals and notebooks from my youth. I thought I had left them behind but when I came across them, I felt the need to do something with them.

Written as a reflection of a past addict's study of his journals and poetry from his youth. A raw look at the thoughts and feelings of their past self, steeped in anger, loss, neglect, and the need to be loved, to be saved, and to be found. Join him at the Coffee Shop.

"At times, dark and bitter, other times, morose and reflective, Lebold's Coffee Shop is gritty, raw, and real."- Candace Nola

Aaron Lebold is an author of psychological horror, sometimes dabbling in extreme elements. His love of the genre began at an early age with all the best slasher films. Writing has always been something of interest but he didn’t make any serious attempts at it until 2017. Since that time he has completed several novels and novellas. His short stories can be found in various anthologies by various publishers. Some of his short stories have been narrated for the Cryo-Pod Podcast. His novel “Born Sick” took second place at the Godless 666 awards for best novel of 2022.

Blood Moon by Uncomfortably Dark presents COFFEE SHOP

"You, as a person, are irrelevant. You don’t matter. You are pathetic and weak, and you’re going to end up surrounded by burned bridges, sitting in a trailer with nobody in your life that wants to deal with you."

Okay well let's go ahead and start with the fact that I am typing this and choking up at the same time.
This book was beautiful. It was raw, really raw. Full of emotion. Raw emotions. And thoughts. Just In-depth and beautiful thoughts. Heavy feelings were felt throughout. And I LOVED every page. I don't typically quote a dedication... but I really think this one needs a special spot here:

"This book is dedicated to anyone who feels a constant need for growth and self-awareness. Change is hard, but not as hard as staying the same."

The dedication alone put me straight in my feels. Truly. Now I must admit, while I do a lot of poetry reading and even writing, I typically don't review them. Thus, I am totally unaware of what the protocol is for reviewing a book like this, and I felt it would be inconsistent with who I am if I googled how poems were to be reviewed. So, here we are, I am just totally winging it!! Something I loved about this was not only were there poems, but there were also journal entries, and then "breaks" if you will, where Lebold did.

This collection is extremely well balanced by pairing long, rich prose with powerful poetry. I have been a fan of Lebold's writing since I ARC'd one of his extreme horror books (PENNYROYAL TEA) back in November 2023. From there, I have read most of his work, and it's really amazing to see him go from extreme horror to psychological horror to this beautiful book. Lebold has a great range and is definitely an author I look forward to reading more from. Both poetry and stories. I highly recommend this to literally anyone and everyone. This is one of those times where if you're on the fence, I highly encourage you to take a chance. It's worth it.

The eBook is available now on Godless, Then it will go live on Amazon, September 4th.

COFFEE SHOP is a collection of poetry by Aaron Lebold.

This book was an incredible read. I don't generally read a lot of poetry, but I thought I would give it a shot. I'm pretty freaking glad that I did.

The poems read like song lyrics for the soul. They pain vivid pictures with meaningful words and bitter vignettes of dark thoughts.

Between the poetry are chapters (or parts) that give the reader a breath of fresh air as though they sit in conversation with the nameless poet who dons a fedora, chips away on a typewriter and sips foamy coffee while sitting in a jazz-infused coffee shop straight out of the Fifties.

I grew up reading the works of Beat Gen poets like Kerouac and Ginsberg, if I didn't know any better, I'd say this was a lost record of Beat poetry that was found in a dusty box in someone's attic. It heralds a myriad of deep concepts one would find in a spoken-word concert held by the ghosts of Kerouac and Corso.

I give Coffee Shop a paltry 5 Blazing Stars, paltry in that I don't believe any amount of stars would ever be enough to appreciate the nostalgia I experienced in reading these pages.
