SQUEAKY SCRITCH SCRATCH HELLO MORTALS it is I, your friendly neighborhood raccoon warlock, hyped up on enough arcane amphetamines to make Vecna’s eyeball twitch, here to tell you this book is DELICIOUS—like garbage pizza at 3 a.m. but with more blood and purple worms the size of church steeples.

Listen: this book is not about survival. It’s about dying beautifully. It’s 15 one-shots where your 1st-level idiot heroes get mulched, swallowed, skewered, or flattened by monsters so big they make Tiamat look like a disgruntled parakeet. And I love it. LOVE IT. Why? Because every death is a rehearsal for my true goal: NECROMANCY. Kill them all, raise them all, throw a skeleton party where everyone’s tibia is a glow stick.

Tangential thought: purple worms are basically nature’s garbage disposals but sexier. Sorry, inappropriate? Good. That’s the energy. Hilarious, chaotic, borderline cruel—and written by Matthew Lillard, who is, let’s be real, sexy in that “Kiefer Sutherland in The Lost Boys summoned you to his underground vampire lair, fed you blood wine, and then trapped you forever with his eyes” kind of way. Err, I mean, he seems like a really nice dude. Totally wholesome. Definitely not enslaving me with his gaze. (…probably.)

Do you want improv chaos? Do you want to roll initiative and then immediately roll a new character sheet? Do you want to scream-laugh as your brave paladin is eaten whole in Round Two while the bard plays funeral kazoo? This is the book. This is THE BOOK.

And look, self-referential moment: am I reviewing this book or am I pitching it to my undead army? BOTH. Reality is a dungeon and everybody dies in it anyway—might as well let a purple worm do the honors. 10/10, will die again.
