Haiku Review: Kiwi Forrest Gump / Saw it all and meet them all. / He sign Waitangi?

An entertaining collection of anecdotal stories and observations relating to the topic of ethnic and national identity. Chris Laidlaw writes in quite a friendly and casual manner which makes the topics covered more understandable to the wider audience. This is a particular strength as he does discuss some issues which are of keen importance, especially to the Aotearoa, New Zealand public.
Unfortunately while the approach taken does give it more of a chumy feel, I can't help but feel it came at the expense of some deeper theoretical insights into the subject manner. There were numerous times when he would touch on a topic of interest, which could of quite rightly warranted the devotion of a book. Sadly the emphasis was more on extremely short chapters. Furthermore while it also added to the casual and user friendly tone, the topics did not appear to be arranged in a particularly identifiable pattern.
I of course understand that I can not have my cake and eat it too. I hope that these sacrifices have/will enable/d a reader base among the general public.
