Let’s be honest. This book does not knock politely. It kicks the door in, locks it behind you, and asks if you signed the waiver. Unmasking Darkness is a dark romance that knows exactly what it is doing and does it with a straight face and a raised eyebrow.
The premise is gloriously unhinged in a controlled, intentional way. Power, revenge, masks, consent contracts, and a hunt that is absolutely not a trust-building exercise. The author wastes zero time pretending this is a soft read. From the jump, the tone is heavy, deliberate, and very aware that readers are here for morally questionable men and a heroine who is tired of pretending her life is fine.
Cora is not a doormat. She is angry, wounded, stubborn, and walking around with emotional bruises that are far more compelling than her physical ones. Her internal conflict is one of the strongest parts of the book. She wants control but keeps choosing chaos. Relatable, honestly. Her decisions are not always smart, but they are consistent with who she is and what she’s surviving.
The three male leads are not carbon copies with different haircuts. Each one brings a distinct flavor of danger and ego to the table. One is cold and surgical, one is calculating and observant, and one is charming in a way that feels like a trap. Together, they are a problem. Separately, they are also a problem. The dynamic between them adds tension that goes beyond the FMC, which is refreshing and, yes, a little naughty without being cartoonish.
The writing leans into atmosphere. Dark halls, controlled pacing, and a constant sense that something is about to go wrong. It’s not purple, but it is indulgent. The author clearly enjoys the psychological aspect of power exchange and doesn’t rush emotional beats just to get to the next spicy moment. When things escalate, it feels earned rather than dropped in for shock value.
That said, this book is not here to comfort you. If you need your romances wrapped in reassurance and therapy language, this is not your stop. The moral compass is bent, the men are unapologetic, and the story expects the reader to keep up emotionally. Some scenes are meant to unsettle you. That is the point.

This is EXACTLY the read I was looking for - mostly smut, with an interesting sub plot that kept me engaged. The spice was scrumptious & well written, and the relationship development between the men finding their dynamic was 10/10. Every RH book I’ve read had had the dynamic between the men pre established, so I loved watching them find their groove. Love love love!!

Unmasking Darkness by Selena Winters is the first book in the Hollow's Hunt series.. I was beyond excited to dive into this world after the other series, "Blackwood brothers." This book focuses on the other participants from Hollow's Hunt. What a fantastic read this was.. This is a dark romance centred around Dominic, Liam, and Ryder. Who team up to hunt Cora, the corrupted mayor's daughter. At first, she's meant to be a pawn in their plan to take him down, but their plans quickly unravelled when their desire and connections got in the way. Then they had feelings for her. Yes, this book is very hot and spicy, and I mean SPICY 🥵 I can't wait for the next book to see what that one has in store for us..!

If you want smut than this is for you. If you are looking for a storyline and good character chemistry than this is not for me. Sadly major let down, clearly the focus for this author is only smut for this series no substance. I had higher hopes as a lover of dark twisted stories but this was just nothing special.

In true Selena Winters fashion, she never disappoints or fails in creating completely delicious unhinged men that will have you setting your morals aside and eagerly devouring the pages like a woman starved.
This dark reverse harem/why-choose had me completely in a chokehold and going feral.
I love the dark world created in this book and the characters are unhinged and so delicious I couldn't get enough. Cora, Ryder, Dominic, and Liam will have you overheating and melting into a puddle from all the heat. Each MMC brings a unique flavor of psycho to the relationship with a BA woman you can easily root for. Did I mention the boyfriends are boyfriends too? I just love that!
If you love primal play involving masked men and a plot full of suspense and secrets that will keep you on the edge-of-my-seat, then this is the book for you.

This new series continues the story of the Hollow's hunt, but in this series, it covers the other participants and their prey. This book is about Cora, the Mayor's daughter, who has demanded a place in the hunt, so she can be there for her best friend and journalist, who is trying to gather information on the Blackwood Empire. Xavier refuses until a favour is called in.
Dominic, Liam, and Ryder all hate Mayor Pike; he has made their life so much harder, using them as scapegoats for his policies. But who is the actual villain in this scenario, who is the one who is the coldest, calculating, controlling piece of dirt? The one who fights for family values, yet is the one to abuse them most? They will use his daughter as bait as revenge for all he has done against them.
Cora hasn't felt safe since she was a child. Her life has been controlled so thoroughly by her father, and she pays the price when she tries to go against him or she stands her ground. So when the men catch her in the hunt, she gets drawn in by their actions and the words they whisper to her. The attraction between all four is off them is off the charts. What happens in the hunt stays in the hunt. But when she finds out what they've done, they are just as bad as her father.
The men claim Cora for the year, something she is wrestling with. How can she still have this intense attraction to all of them, considering how they played her?

I was so ready for this book after the conclusion of the Blackwood Brothers series.
Going into this I knew that this series would be a lot more forbidden a lot more angst to it but, when I tell you I did not prepare myself I just did not prepare myself. Because this series is more than spice and the hunt.
This book took a toll on your emotions because you have three very strong-willed men and you have one woman who has been essentially destroyed by someone who should have protected her and you in the midst of all this see something so wrong and so animalistic because of what purgatory brings to the hunt.
Now with that said Cora is a very strong-willed woman but she has been broken down physically and mentally to the point she's a shell of the girl she knows she can be.
Dominic is very in control he is very never rely on anyone but the way that this man crumbles is so beautiful to watch.
Liam and Ryder are totally different, Ryder is so sensitive whereas Liam is the epitome of a degrading kink with his own life and with others around him. Watching these two come undone and really embrace who they are with each other but also with Dom and Cora is something to see.
I feel that the fantasies that were played out in this book as well fit perfectly for the characters they were meant for. And each roller coaster of emotions is done with so much care that you almost have a hate love relationship with some of their emotions and I love that because it brings a sense of realisticness to this book.
I am so ready for the next book ☺️

Now with that said Cora is a very strong-willed woman but she has been broken down physically and mentally to the point she's a shell of the girl she knows she can be.
Dominic is very in control he is very never rely on anyone but the way that this man crumbles is so beautiful to watch.
Liam and Ryder are totally different, Ryder is so sensitive whereas Liam is the epitome of a degrading kink with his own life and with others around him. Watching these two come undone and really embrace who they are with each other but also with Dom and Cora is something to see.
I feel that the fantasies that were played out in this book as well fit perfectly for the characters they were meant for. And each roller coaster of emotions is done with so much care that you almost have a hate love relationship with some of their emotions and I love that because it brings a sense of realisticness to this book.
I am so ready for the next book ☺️

I liked the story, and found the characters well developed. There were a few points where details or events contradicted previously established information though. For example, the FMC's mother was originally established as having died when she was seven, (the FMC's stepmother is introduced in the second chapter, the first from the FMC's POV, and it doesn't have much real impact on the story, so this isn't really a spoiler) but, later, she says she was six when her mother died. Characters also frequently switch back and forth between locations and positions (for example, standing by a window, walking to a sofa to sit down, then leaning against the window). Granted, I read an ARC, and these are frequently provided before final edits are made, but I still felt they pulled me out of the story enough when they happened that they were worth mentioning
I really appreciated how the author portrayed the MM interactions and relationships without making them feel fetishized. It's, honestly, one of my biggest icks when it comes to reading MM written by women, and it was just really nice to see it treated, more or less, the way any other relationship would be
Overall, though, I liked the story, the characters, and the relationships between them. I look forward to reading more by this author, especially since I didn't realize this ties into some of her other books, (it can easily be read as a standalone, though) and now I have to go read them, too.

This is a dark why-choose romance centered around Dominic, Liam, and Ryder, who team up to hunt Cora—the corrupt mayor’s daughter. At first, she’s meant to be a pawn, a way to get to her father. But plans unravel quickly when desire, connection, and very real feelings get involved.
Yes, this book is very spicy, and those scenes are seriously hot—but what really stood out to me was the emotional depth. Watching these characters slowly let their walls down, learn to trust one another, and realize they don’t have to face everything alone was incredibly satisfying. I loved that all three guys are very different. Each of them has his own personality, his own ‘voice’. That dynamic between them adds so much heat and depth to the story. And the relationship between the guys and Cora develops in a way that it is believable. What starts as revenge turns into something emotional, and oddly intimate.
This is dark romance, so it may not be for everyone. But if you love why choose, enemies-to-lovers, and a heroine who doesn’t stay powerless, you’ll love this. I finished it and can’t wait for the next book.

I have a hard time putting into to words how much I loved this book.
I had not read the Blackwood Brothers books going into this book and it didn't effect me being able to enjoy this book to the full extent
This book is a full on MMMF book and I loved every bit of that. The men enjoying each other with enjoying their girl
The hunt is so fun to experience from their different POVs
Ryder is officially my new favorite book boyfriend.
Dom finally giving into him vulnerability was just an amazing thing to watch happen.
Cora taking her power back in her own way and in every way that she did was a thing of beauty, she is such a strong woman for everything that she went though and to come out as she does in the end
Liam and Ryder's dynamic on their own is so fun and then put them with Dom and Cora and the 4 of them are such a powerful foursome for so many reasons in the bedroom and outside of it

I wasn't sure the Blackwood Brother's could be out done BUT I think Dom, Liam, & Ryder are my new favorite book boyfriend's! WOW! Never have I wanted to be a FMC more than I wanted to be Cora. I loved her character before we got to this book but I adored her more after. She's got fire in her that so many overlooked until the Hunt. Everyone saw a smiling face because that's what she was raised to do. A fake it til you make it because her dad is the mayor & appearances matter. even tho behind close doors he's a bigger monster than those he tries to destroy in the public eye. These men worship her & well each other. The spicy was 🔥, but what really drew me in was the emotional connection they all shared. The way the fought for each other. Dom, Liam, & Ryder are all powerful men but you get to see the men behind close doors. Cora is one lucky lady! 💕.

Omg, Omg, Omg, what a ride!!! This book is spicy the heat is off the charts. This is pure filthy, dark, spice, and I was here for every bit of it. I will begin by saying please read the trigger warnings before reading only you can protect your mental health. What a wild ride.... Cora joins the hunt and her hunters have something against her father. Three masked hunters & one prey. Omg the spice was off the chart!!! I couldn't put this down. I will say that for the first time, with Selena I wanted a little more with the plot (more action) with Mayor Pike, with that being said I know that this book was more about the spice and the relationships between the Cora and Dom (Daddy), Ryder, and Liam. This book is complete fire!!! HOT HOT HOT. Love me some Selena Winters.

I found myself completely engrossed in this book, unable to put it down until the very last page 🖤. It was such a satisfying experience to finally learn more about Cora, especially after following her journey through The Blackwood Brothers series; I was genuinely overjoyed 🤧. I am incredibly excited and anticipating the release of the next two books in this series! From the very first chapter, this captivating story held me spellbound, keeping me on the edge of my seat with its twists and turns. I was thrilled to witness Cora's character development and the unfolding of her story. Selena Winters has not only created a memorable character but also a series that I am now eagerly anticipating to continue reading.

Dnf chapter 34/50. Should have bailed out sooner...
The heroine is bland and a whiny rich baby, the guys talk big but are not smart. The dirty talk is cringe & even the smut is whatever (I usually gobble up ⚔️ crossing & dynamic dynamics but here I'm not buying it).
I don't give a fridge about daddy meanest & the revenge plot (problem could be solved with some aerodynamic lead).
No talks whatsoever about std testing or pregnancy risks.
Also too much butt stuff all day every day with what I hate: Forever clean magic bottoms. No need for thorough showers or even excusing themselves to check the plumbing & do a bit of self prep. My suspension of disbelief just can't deal with fantasy biology in contemporary settings.

Selena Winters has shattered my mind with Cora’s story! Dom, Ryder, and Liam partnered up for revenge, but she broke them! I love why choose and could not be happier about how darkness became an intoxicating experience. TW for scarred childhoods, forced proximity, primal play, and dominance should be considered. Cora is so much stronger than anyone realizes and these men witness her resilience and intelligence as they discover their own dark desires! Powerful men who have no problem protecting a woman from her worst nightmare! This is dark romance at its finest: twisted, erotic, and beautifully executed!!! This is a fantastic read, the love between them is incredible, and my kindle is still smoking!!!.

A dark, why choose, revenge romance that brings Cora, Dominic, Liam, and Ryder to the forefront. Cora is the Mayor's daughter; she's been groomed to be perfect, always polite, accountable and a good girl. But Dominic, Liam and Ryder have been wronged by her father, and finding out Cora was participating in the Hunt was the perfect way for them all to get revenge. But everything changed in those 72 hours. A very spicy book, but it was more than that. It was about these 4 finding themselves in the middle of a situation they never saw coming. Each of them, in some way, having to admit who they were and what they wanted was something they never saw coming.

What she doesn’t bank on is she is hunted by three men teaming up, Dominic, Liam and Ryder. All three men want to catch Cora to humiliate and get revenge against the mayor for their own different reasons. They still seek their revenge but start to see Cora in a different light as well as each other, then they start to work together to take down the mayor while figuring out their New Romantic dynamic.

Great Read
Cora just wants a chance to break free and have one thing thats her own, so she joins the hunt. Not realizing that she is going to become a pawn in a revenge game against her father. What neither side realizes is that their goals might not be so different. Can Cora learn to trust anyone other than herself? When the lines blur where will that leave them?
This was a great read. It definitely had dark elements so be aware of the trigger warnings. There was plenty of spice. The characters are multilayered, each with their own issues that they must overcome to work together.
