The Dominion Series Collection: Books 1 - 4

Rate this book
Eve Hayden had no idea what to expect the night she went in search of a translator for an 800-year old French illuminated manuscript but it certainly wasn’t what she found -- Michel and Julien de Cernay: 800-year old identical twin vampire brothers – beautiful, tempermental opposites, both wanting her for themselves.

Michel -- dark, brooding, control-freak, former priest who broke his vows the night he was turned into a vampire. Julien -- impetuous, valiant, passionate, a brave knight who lost his life on a battlefield when a vampire claimed him.

Caught between the two brothers, Eve searches for the truth about her mother's death, her birth, and the fight to prevent Dominion – vampire rule over humans. Eve's mother gave her life to keep Eve safe, but was unable to protect herself. Now, Eve can't escape this fate nor can she escape them -- even if she wanted to.

This is her story.

The Dominion Series Collection includes Books 1 through 4.

I had to get the series bundle off of Amazon because Google and Barnes did not have it. Google had the first and Barnes will have the newest one, not the others. It makes you want to read more, then you wonder if julien and/or michel are on what side. they love her, but what is their real purpose? I feel bad for Eve because no one tells her what is going on. everything hush hush, but how can she take up where mom left off when no one tells her anything? torn between twins, not knowing who to trust, always betrayal by someone close to her, manipulated by someone. the only one she can sort of count on is julien. he has loosened up considerably over the books and makes her happy despite what is going on. Michel wants to be a priest again and how can they be lovers again if priests are celibate? he saw the future of them. unless he pulls off something spectacular to make Eve go back to him, I believe she will be with Julian. Michel never wanted to be a vampire while julien accepts it and does penance for sex with eve. maybe he can be a pastor. they have families... I still wonder about the prophecy and who it will be to save the day in the end.

Book 1 in the Dominion Series. - Eve’s mother was a researcher for the Council of Clairveaux (a council of humans and vampires who have signed a treaty preventing vampires from randomly killing humans for their blood). Eve’s mother’s research originally was to find a way to eradicate vampires, but we later find out she was looking to find a way to cure vampirism; she was killed by a vampire when Eve was a little girl, and Eve grew up in foster care.

The book opens when Eve gains access to her mother’s research papers and is looking for a translator for an ancient manuscript she finds among the papers that was written by a vampire – Julian de Cernay. Once Eve meets her first vampire, Michel de Cernay, followed quickly by his twin brother Julian, Eve is quickly drawn in to a new and secret world working for the Special Case Unit for the Council of Clairveaux as Michel’s partner. The Special Case Unit is a secret law enforcement agency dedicated to tracking and punishing rogue vampires. There is a serial killer on the loose, the Riverman Killer, and the description of the victims fit Eve to a “T”.

When a Riverman killing shows up in Montana the SCU team heads to Montana where they meet with a retired “Colonel Anders Henrickson”, but Michel knows this man, and when they get back to the hotel he tells Eve his name is Soren Lindgren – a vampire who figures predominantly in the story from Julian’s manuscript. Soren is no garden variety vampire, but it would be giving away too much to say more. Eve knows before the end of the trip that Soren is involved in the Riverman Killings, but thanks to Soren’s power to compel, not only does no one believe her – no one even seems to hear her.

This is a complicated story, and the first book is mostly a set-up – introducing the characters, concepts and parameters of the world. I love the use of the classic lovers’ triangle here. Eve is caught between the two brothers – Michel, a former Bishop is still a priest in his heart and the sex with him will always carry the kink of being involved with a priest. Julian is a former Knight, a soldier and has been involved in every war since the time he was a human, 800 years previous. Both brothers are enthralled with Eve.

The most annoying part of this book is Eve’s refusal to accept that she has feelings for both brothers. When feelings do creep in for the brother she is not “seeing”, she labels those feelings as “wrong”. This is a pattern that will continue throughout the series and expand and will continue to be more and more annoying.

This was a fun and interesting book and leads off a creative series that I really enjoyed. The main characters are fully drawn, the world is close enough to our own to be very creepy and there are plenty of questions to keep you turning those pages. The end is a classic cliffhanger – but I warned you upfront – plan to read the whole series! Highly recommended.

Book II - Ascension

Book two in the Dominion series opens up with Eve having been kidnapped by the most powerful vampire in the city, Luke. When she protests her status as Michel’s “property” Luke points to bite marks on her neck that she doesn’t remember getting except in a dream. Those bite marks are saving Eve from becoming Luke’s property and folded into his harem – Luke has sent word to Michel that he has his toy – but it isn’t Michel that comes to collect her. Soren has helped Michel bring Julian back, but at a high price – Michel must stay with, and work with Soren for 20 years. Michel has given Eve to Julian, and Julian plans to accept the gift. Of course, what Eve doesn’t understand is that she is very much in danger from every side. It’s not clear yet what Eve’s place is in each group’s plans, only that she is important to everyone and without powerful protectors she will be toast.

Julian moves her into a warehouse loft with himself and a manservant named Vasily that he inherited from Michel. Vasily is vastly entertaining – an old Russian who has nothing but loyalty for the brothers and affection for his new charge. Julian is not going to push anything with Eve – and he has his own emotional issues to deal with, as well as a war to wage, so he will fit Eve in where he can and Vasily looks over her the rest of the time. Despite Eve’s constant bratty behavior Julian is patient and it is clear that this 800 year old vampire just wants this little brat to be safe find herself so she can be who she is wants to be and not what fate is forcing upon her. Unfortunately, they will not have the time and space Julian needs to give Eve the help she needs. Fate will step in, again and again.

Eve is almost unbearable in this book – I almost threw my kindle across the room a number of times – “if you don’t want him I’ll have him” – crossed my lips more times than I want to admit when I was reading yet another unbearably annoying scene wherein she was turning Julian down when she clearly had feelings for him.

This was a perfect number two in a series of five. We were introduced to more of the plot, given a broader view of the issues and alternate understanding of some characters and agencies we met in the first book. The scare factor is ramping up as well, slowly it seems as if there is no going back – something terrible is going to happen – nobody is sure exactly what, just that it’s coming, and we can feel it too.

Book III Retribution

Book 3 of the Dominion Series opens with Eve still suffering from amnesia. She is living with Michel in a cottage not far from her foster parents on the beach and is blissfully ignorant of the impending dominion war, or of the existence of vampires at all. As the book opens, Eve has found the online password protected journal that she kept since she came into possession of her mother’s papers and met Michel. When she hacks into it, even though she can’t personally remember – she now has the knowledge of everything she forgot. Most notably that a group of rogue vampires with access to military technology and more, have plans to put vampires into total dominion over the human race by initiating a technological armageddon – throwing the human race back to the steam age in one go.

Eve meets up with Julian on the beach. Up until that moment, he still thought she was dead. The rest of the book reads a lot like a murder mystery. Julian and Eve become SCU partners and head up the coast to investigate several killings that fit the Riverman Killer. The town itself is also rumored to have a sect of group planning dominion. Julian and Eve decide to move in and blend in to find what they can find… everyone’s plans become quite clear throughout the book – both the dominon group and Soren.

Eve continues to be the most annoying thing in the book. Soren plays her like an instrument, inviting her and Julian to a party that they cannot say no to, then parading Michel out with a beautiful woman draped all over him, and I do mean draped all over him. Eve is so jealous she is bright green. She can’t stand it. She could have had both those boys to herself by just saying the word at anytime. But she believes it’s wrong, so she tortures herself, and she tortures them and goes back and forth and gives Soren one more thing to hold over them all. It’s maddening.

Again, well done. These books are fun. Nothing more, nothing less.

Book IV Resurrection

Book 4 of the Dominion Series opens with Eve living alone in the cottage she once shared with Julian. She is trying to learn to control the blood craving. Dylan comes to visit to try and help, and the brothers and agreed to her terms to share her, so she is only alone one day a week. The world is in turmoil, and Soren’s plan for religious dominion is not dead, but it is far from clear where Michel and Julian actually stand in that plan. They say they are only playing along in order to be able to take him down from the inside – but even the rebel group they were working with doesn’t trust them anymore.

What is clear is that Eve is not safe. Eve is moved to a safe house in the city, but that means living with both brothers together – how long will they be able to manage that without someone doing something unforgiveable? There isn’t much I can say at this point that wouldn’t be a huge spoiler, and that would be unforgiveable, so I’ll keep this short.

I finished this book panting for the final book – and thankfully it is scheduled for this summer. With any luck it will come out on schedule.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins.

From Sauron's fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, his power spread far and wide. Sauron gathered all the Great Rings to him, but always he searched for the One Ring that would **complete** his **dominion**.

When Bilbo reached his eleventy-first birthday he disappeared, bequeathing to his young cousin Frodo the Ruling Ring and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord, and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom.

The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.

This new edition includes the fiftieth-anniversary fully corrected text setting and, for the first time, an extensive new index.

J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but while he studied classic works of the past, he was creating a set of his own.

This is a good series except for the fact that she made Eve into such a whiny, it's all about me girl I almost didn't complete it. I mean seriously, give me a break, she had the best of both worlds as far as lovers, but when it came to making decisions for the good of all? OH NO! It's her way or no way. I wanted to slap her. And her supposed Dom? He wasn't worth the time it took to type the word. Any Dom worth his salt would have disciplined her and set her attitude straight. I wouldn't recommend this.

Great story and characters, but so much time spent in each book with the main character having to learn things over and over- is she stupid, do they keep making her forget without our knowledge?

She knows by the middle of book 4 that Soren can read her mind all the time, but the first chapter of book five sees her thinking it's only when they share blood as she was told that before.

She makes her mind up about the brothers then changes for no reason, all in all a lot of vacillating back and forth, round and round where it's not necessary- I think the author is trying for these massive, suspenseful plot twists, like Jeffery Deaver or Archer or King, but she doesn't have the skill or knowledge to do it.

Maybe she just didn't keep track well enough of her story, I'm not sure but it's frustrating.

Horrible

One of the worst series I ever read. It has a bunch of different story lines an ideas all lumped together. The main character Eve sits there and says no over and over to just turn around and give I'm everytime. So extremely disappointed by this series it has a great concept but no executed with any talent. Don't waste your time.

The Dominion Series Collection: Books 1 - 4 (Kindle Edition)

I love this series so far and look forward to the final story.

I have mixed feelings in regards to the main three characters but I have to trust all will turn out well in the end.

So I will hold off with further (deeper) comments until such time as I complete the story.

Love this series!!!

I loved books 1-4 and can't wait to start book 5! I'm usually not a fan of vampire books but with this series I'm a fan. This series has everything including lust, fallen angels, vampires, a lot of emotions and love. I must admit I cried a few times during the 4 books. I have already recommended the books to several people.

Disappointec

This was not what I expected from this series....taking 4 books to say what could have been compiled into one. The questions without resolution...over and over...not what I have seen from this author before and hope not to see again.

An ancient illuminated manuscript, beautiful 800-year old French twin vampires – I should have loved this story. And I did at first, but it flip-flopped so many times, and I got so bored that I had to force myself through book 3 and DNF’d book 4. I might go back to it someday.
