There is now a Mass Exodus to EXIT our K-12 Public Schools for alternative schools. 16 Million students are projected to leave public schools by 2030. That Exodus will leave 50 Million children behind in a failing system. What happens when the Sacred Fire of Public Education burns out for them?

A ruthless battle rages around our children, at the core of which is WHO will define what America will be in the future. Our children will be tomorrows Leaders, Politicians, and Teachers. But WHAT will they believe? Will they carry the Torch of America's Dream? Or will they burn it down?

There are no " fixes " or " band-aids " that will help the children remaining in our public schools after millions leave. We can only burn down the current system (figuratively of course), then reignite the Sacred Fire of Education in a new version and a new vision of our Public Schools to lift those who were left behind.

Have no doubt, Public Schools are here to remain. It is the most convenient way to provide education to the masses. The Yellow School Bus will keep running. The Lunch Lady will keep serving up Taco Tuesdays. Dodge Ball will still be the nemesis of every child.

But the problems we have in our public schools will only get worse if, as predicted, those 16 MILLION students leave the Public Schools for private schools, homeschools, and other education models. The reality is that most students will remain behind in an ever-failing system that lacks discipline, safety, and true academic and personal achievement. What do we do about them? Do we just abandon them? Do we just accept that and risk the creation of an educational caste system that produces mal-educated citizen in mass?

NO! We can do better. We are America. We know how to do BIG things. We must do something for those left behind. It is time to explore alternative ideologies, apply a little radical activism, and push for real change. Band-aids designed to reform our schools have never worked. True revolution will require massive changes in educational policy, education law, public policy, and state and federal legislation that foundational change leadership. This goes beyond social sciences, political science, and typical government approaches to school policies and administration and pushes on the very core of what our public education enterprise can be.

When I began reading this book, I was hoping it wouldn't be another one that merely highlighted the issues with the educational system. The book was well written, and the author disproved my theory. The author explained the history in detail and dissected the issues. He went so far as to explain the history of the public education system and its shortcomings. I appreciate his cautions and advice to those who might not enjoy his work. Anyone who wants to understand the issues facing the current educational system and how we can contribute to its improvement should read this. I loved his writing style, and I can see how even something like this is regarded as a sensitive subject.
