The Bhagavad Gita is originally written in Sanskrit, comprising of 18 chapters and 700 verses. The Gita is essentially the dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna just before the commencement of the Kurukshetra war. Arjuna is feeling conflicted and questions his decision to go to war against his relatives, teachers, friends, and cousins. Krishna answers his questions on duty, action, knowledge and devotion and gives him insight.
The Bhagavad Gita in Simple English by Satish Modh beautifully translates the original Sanskrit verses into English in simple, lucid language, making it accessible to many people. This is the first time that I am reading the Bhagavad Gita and I am sure I couldn’t have started with a better book. This book contains the verses in Sanskrit, Hindi and English.
I loved the Glossary at the end and the fact that it has a link to the source where there is the verse, meaning of each word, the translation of the verse and a paragraph in detail. This reference is perfect for those who want to do a deep dive into the Bhagavad Gita.
