Rate this book
We Become a Poem / Nos Volvemos Poema is a bilingual poetry collection that weaves together English and Spanish in a celebration of language, identity, and cultural connection.

These poems speak to the spaces between—between languages, between countries, between who we were and who we are becoming. With tenderness and clarity, Silvi Galmozzi invites readers into a poetic journey where translation is not the goal, but rather a shared experience of voice and rhythm.

Written for readers who live in more than one language, or who are learning to, this collection honors both the beauty and the tension of bilingual expression.

Whether you’re a lover of poetry, a language learner, or someone exploring what it means to belong, this book is for you.

Quite interesting

The blocks of intro confused me to the actual contents. Which I was pleased about: my favorite part was Cultures in Contrast. Nice take on language.

Fun book

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
I signed up for this drawing because I'm learning Spanish, and thought this would be a fun way to expand my vocabulary.
And it was. I was surprised by how much I could garner from context and how little I had to look up.
I will continue to enjoy this volume of poems as I continue my Spanish learning.

"We Become A Poem, Nos Volvemos Poema," by Silvi Galmozzi, is a bilingual collection without translation that mixes both languages: Spanish and English in the poems. One can find in a single poem a line in English and the next line in Spanish making the reading more suitable for those who who are bilingual. This is a thing not usually seen in bilingual books of poetry that are written with the translation next to the original. We do not see this in this book. Thus, those who do not know both languages may find this technique not so appealing. But bilingual readers will not see the same being able to go back and forth through the readings. The diction here is simple and the book shows the flavor of being bilingual with poetry touching several themes.
This is a book more for bilingual than for those who are not; though those who are not may find something in it to enjoy.

For many of us, the journey toward bilingual reading begins with curiosity and evolves into transformation. The first time you read a poem, a novel, or even a short story in another language, you realize that meaning is not fixed — it dances. A single phrase in Spanish can carry a warmth, humor, or tenderness that feels different in English, not better or worse, just new. This is the art of bilingual reading: it asks us to slow down, to savor, to think — and to open ourselves to multiple truths at once.
I enjoyed writing this book. I hope you enjoy reading it!
